    HP Z6100 Maintenance Cartridge Missing

    Hi guys.

Does anybody knows how to solve this issue? I only cleaned the Line Sensor (found below the carriage unit) with tissue and alcohol.

Tried also replacing a new maintenance tank.

    Still it is the same.

    Thanks much

The service manual suggests starting a printhead replacement. In theory you'll start the printhead replacement, open the door, close the door and it should start the maintenance cartridge replacement process.

You shouldn't use alcohol; it will cloud the clear plastic lens of the sensor (eventually.) Simple Green works wonders on the inks and overpsray but won't hurt the plastics.

There's two marks on the cartridge, one that tells the printer the cartridge is installed, and one that tells the printer if it's new or not. So make sure the first mark isn't missing. If it is just use a black marker.

The line sensors often just fail, but they're easy to replace. You don't have to remove the carriage.

I checked on this. The maintenance cartridge has a hole instead of a black strip. Put a sticker on it then make a black mark on it.

Test and it worked. Thanks so much Kiran.

        Thanks also MBT.

I'm glad it worked! It's more common on the latex printers.

Also make sure the encoder strip is clean; if it's dirty it can confuse the carriage on where the maintenance cartridge should be.
