    [Error Code] Designjet Z5200 02.1:10

I have a customer with a designjet Z5200 showing an error of 02.1:10. The machine is fairly new, and I figured it's more likely a board problem than trailing cables. I replaced the carriage PCA. Same thing. When I run the carriage assembly test, it gets to Starting AdcManagerHorus and flashed the code.

I'm assuming the next thing in line is the main PCA & power supply. Is there anything I'm missing? I've never had this code before.

    Thanks

I'd check to make sure you don't have a damaged interconnect cable to one of the printheads. You could replace the carriage cover; it includes the interconnect cables. If HP isn't pulling my leg as usual, it says it's only $28. Q5669-60686 If it's not that, my vote would be for the trailing cable.

I always try to start with the least expensive part in the chain and work my way up. But given the manual says to replace the carriage PCA, I'd have probably started there too.

Check the main PCA end of the trailing cable, and especially where it threads around the paper lever.. there's a lot of chances for it to get buggered up around there. Look for flaking or bent contacts where it goes into the ZIF sockets.

As always, if someone else has been inside the printer before you, everything is suspect.

Oh and try testing without the printheads installed. A bad or shorted printhead can cause all sorts of false errors.

        Thanks.

Yeah, I tried the test without the printheads and got the same result.

I wasn't suspecting the trailing cables because the machine is so new. I mean everything on it looks brand new almost. It's just barely out of warranty and they hardly used it at all. I'm going back tomorrow to run the electronics module test--something I forgot to do before leaving.

          Thanks Kiran, for your advice.

          Here's where it stands now:

I replaced the carriage PCA, and it didn't help.

I replaced the main board & PSU, and I no longer get the error.

The machine passes the Control Module test fine.

When I run the carriage assembly test, it gets to VPP, and throws a 79:04 error.

If I try to get to a ready screen, the machine says all the printheads need to be reseated. The machine sees when I take each printhead out, and sees when I put it back in. But then it comes back and says they need to be reseated again. The machine did sit for 6 months, so I can see having some printhead problems, but this sounds to me like either something else is wrong or possibly I did something wrong when I replaced the carriage PCA.

          Any thoughts?

I'd check all the flex cables that plug into the carriage PCA.. as you know it's a PAIN to get those all in and the ZIF connectors latched. And since the heads are in a matrix, it can only take one to make them all act screwy. Check the ends of each cable to make sure they're not damaged.

              Just to document...

I finally ended up replacing the entire carriage unit. So in the end, it got a new main board, power supply, carriage pca, trailing cables, and finally a new carriage. What a nightmare. At least it works now.
