    Designjet 800 79.04 error

I had figured this was just the formatter board, so I pulled it out and tried to print a config sheet... this worked for me on the dj 510. But I still get the error and can't print the config sheet. I also tried using 500 PCL drivers, without the formatter installed, but still got same results. Anyone ever have this problem?

    Thanks

Press the Menu button when you get the error, and post back what the file and line number in the additional info are.

      Assertion : failed
      task : tWSServer
      file : atps.c
      line : 247

Is there a manual somewhere to help interpret these things?

      The firmware is A.04.02

There's an internal document on the 79:04 errors, available on the HP Designjet CDs.. however, that particular task/file/line isn't listed.. and could be because this document only covers up to firmware A.02.05. I'm going to ask and see if there's a newer version of it.

Did you try powering it up with all the inks and printheads removed, then inserting them? Can you do a printhead alignment or print the printer info from the front panel? Is it only when you send something to print?

In the driver, try changing it to EMF instead of RAW for the print processor.

          Thanks.

I haven't tried to do an alignment, but I tried to print a config out, and it gave the error.

I've reseated the printheads, but it doesn't do it unless you actually start a print job... so there's nothing I can do before putting printheads in.

Well if it does it printing the internal prints, that rules out the PC or drivers, at least.

Have you removed both cards, drive and network card?

Also, and I know it's a long shot, but make sure the interconnect cable (grey ribbon cable that runs up to the top circuit board on the right) isn't pinched behind the service station holder. Make sure you can wiggle it around where it's folded and heads to the left through the printer. This has gotten me a couple times and caused weird errors.

Yes, I unplugged the network card and the driver/formatter card. It gave the error from internal prints while the cards were unplugged. I'll check with that cable.

edit - I mean't I removed the cards, not just unplugged them.

Someone on HP's forum suggested it may be the printheads. Are they particularly old?

In fact in another post, someone solved your exact error by replacing the black printhead.

I realize it's a different error but they list the same task/file/line as you're getting.
