Hi all,

Pardon me i'm new with Lexmark. I installed a new high yield 45k toner cartridge together with a new 100k drum unit and printed books on a Lexmark MS812dn and when i view the supplies, the toner cartridge has only 50% remaining, meaning 50% has been consumed already while the drum unit has about 85% remaining. when i checked the page count of the printer, i only printed about 8,000 pages. the toner density was set at 7 out of 10 because if i set it at 5 or 6, the prints are not very clear.
Can a 45k toner cartridge really print 45k pages? how?
Can a 100k drum unit or imaging unit really print 100k pages?

industry yield is calculated at 5% coverage on the page.

if you have a full page of print... or pictures or border lines that will eat up more toner.

looking at the life of the toner/drum and the number of pages .. I feel your yield is being reported properly

I thought the chips will just count the number of pages you print. so if you print about 10% or 20% coverage, you can only print lesser than the 45k of the toner cartridge since it will consume more toner. Does it apply to the 100k of the drum unit also?
How does the chip do that?

it calculates the toner USED ( via Bias and rotation) the 'chips' only tell the machine that a new consumable has been installed and that re-clocks the supply count

the toner chip is not the one that is giving information that there is only 50% remaining of the toner cartridge?
Which one is providing this information?

it is ( to the best of my memory) the main board that stores and calculates the percentage. the 'chip' is basically a FUSE that resets the life of the consumable.

Not sure. You still have to manually reset drum counters on Lexmarks or SOME Lexmarks.....maybe not all of them.
