Understanding Device statistics.

I have a Lexmark MS817 and am struggling understanding the Device statistics. I am shown the total count is 1076 yet the copies on the cartridge is 20386. Anyone have an explanation?
We are obtaining the meter reading automated so it only picks up the 1076.

Sorry forgot to update. The main PWB was replaced and the total counter was lost.
