lex xc4140,xc4150, xc6152 models. don't know if anyone else has ran into this yet. just figured i would share it for future reference. i have discovered on these models and probably some others as well. if you have a customer complain that the copier just starts making copies by itself. this is usually after someone recently finished making copies. the actual start button on the keypad, not the one on the screen. that button gets stuck in the down position. i suspect 2 things cause this. one: someone in the office presses the button to hard, which you can't fix. two: what lexmark refers to as the button kit for the control panel is the issue. if you remove the covers, and flip the control panel over. you will see the board that controls the panel. remove 3 screws and you can remove the button kit. if you start pressing the start button. and keep an eye on the piece on the kit that actually moves. that piece gets bent out of shape. and doesn't always return the start button to the proper position. lucky enough if you order it from lexmark it's only about $20. i also believe that it is just poor design on the piece of the kit, tiny flimsy piece of plastic. but i have had this occur at least 6 times. and this has always fixed the issue for me.

What you will also find is the the actual surface mounted contact switch will go bad. Sometimes it completely falls apart. As you cannot interchange a control panel from another machine and bring it to the shop to solder a new switch on your only option would be to surface mount a new switch in the field. Yeah, no. So now you must replace the entire control panel at $200+. I suggest keeping one in stock. We keep several in stock.
All our reps now instruct end users to use the Start button in the LCD screen and not the physical Start button.
