    Parts Bin/Storage question

    Hey all,

Just have a question about storing inventory parts in the parts dept.

We are thinking about changing our layout and are trying to come up with a nice organized layout of the parts, so I was thinking of getting your feedback on how you store your parts.

Do you use plastic bins? plain shelves? etc...

We currently have small plastic bins, but we have run into the issue with most parts not fitting (the bins are like 2 1/2" wide 10" length

Could maybe take some pictures of your shelves if possible? Any ideas?

    Thanks!

    Re: Parts Bin/Storage question

I won't embarrass myself by photographing the chaos that represents our parts department.

Essentially there are 5 shelving units and the car. New parts can be found on 3 of the shelving units and in the car. Used items are found on the remaining two shelving units.

I know where everything is, and can put my hands on any item within a few minutes.
Don't imitate my setup. It's overdue for the same kind of organization you're aiming for. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I'm pretty sure our parts gal is Lynda Carter disguised as a mild mannered inventory specialist.
She uses long, removable-segmented boxes. Small parts live in their labeled cubby all in a row. Segments are removed for fuser rollers, lamps, etc.
Large parts have their own place together on a shelf. All locations are labeled and cataloged.

A little time and a modecum of organizational skills, and it should be doable.
The real challenge is keeping it organized. Be absolutely militant about this.
One risks their good health stepping into her parts room.

And it is... her... parts room.
