    Feed tyre cleaning

Hi just wondering what you're best tips are for cleaning pickup/feed roller tyres.

I've always used WD40 to clean rubber with. In a previous company they used something called rubber renew I think. Has anyone tried platenclene ? I read the coshh sheet and was disturbed by precautions.

I currently work for printer manufacture, as a field service engineer, who produce thermal printers. Everyone in the company seems to use the in-house thermal head cleaning wipes on the feed rollers, much to my disgust. I've gone back to using WD40 but I'm looking for a better solution.

    Thanks
    Andrew

Soft soap(different fragrances also for cleaning copiers/prtinters), diluted 1 part per 3 water, we just have tried to get away chemicals as much as possible, works great, unless the rollers need replacing.

We use WD-40 here in Norway. If it's the feed/pickup/sep rollers, we usually just replace them as they wear out around 100k on Norwegian paper brands.

Lucky you. I've seen Canon pickup rollers last 20k at best.

I use Contractor's De-Solv-It. It's an orange oil based degreaser that does not harm the user, and cleans rubber well.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

You must be USA based. I found a distributor here in the UK, but that product seems to have a different name over here. De-Solv-It I think it's called max strength degreaser here.

I need to be careful of the citrus oils for my product. We have a citrus based label remover from Ambersil WebSite: Maintenance and Repair products it degrades the rubber and causes bubbling.

Here's a picture of the kind of roller that I'm faced with now. It's quite a hard rubber. Notice how the light reflects off the left side more than the right side. This is due to the wear on the roller. DSC_0467.jpg

I would use "Copy Speccial" on those black rollers, they really gets dirty, and "Copy Speccial" cleans them good.

You can't fix a 'dog boned' roller by cleaning it. The left side is clearly raised a bit - replace it.

I've been using a product called Sprayway rubber rejuvinator and cleaner for years. Works great on any kind of rubber roller. Only thing I work on is wide format so if it will clean the wide rollers it will surely do a good job on small copiers. This product is available on Amazon for about $7 a can.

That was an old roller no longer in use. This is what the replacement roller looks like a day after being fitted. DSC_0469.jpg

Looks like a poor quality paper is being used.

These printers print self adhesive labels from a reel. Each reel is about 150 -170 meters long. They can empty a reel in 1/2 an hour. They are operating for eight hours a day.
Very different to the printers and copiers I used to fix. Simpler in some ways. More susceptible to problems in other ways. As with any high yield device, it needs lots of looking after. Especially as these are getting quite old.
