Since the image defect respects the paper margins, I'd guess it has something to do with the scanner part of the machine, so I'm supposing printing comes out OK.
I'd begin to check out cables and connections, specially in the scanner area and the cable between the scanner and the main body.

if thatwas the internal test print. i would reseat the ribbon cable to the print head board (from the mfp board). ive seen outputs like this before, could be ipb or ram. if this is only happening on copys, could be cable connections.
