New i-Series "Upward Compatible" Fusers (Fusing Unit II)

Konica has announced new fusers, yet again, for the i-series machines. Not sure how this affects other countries, but attached in the bulletin released for the US market.

They are releasing what they are calling a "Fusing Unit II" which is "Upward Compatible" with both Versions (1 and 2) of their i-series of machines. This is not to be confused with the "Version 2" fusers that were released about a year ago. [Click here for V1 / V2 Details]

This is something that should have been done in the first place, instead of having to fumble around with carrying 2 different fusers for the same machine model, depending upon the date of manufacture. What a shit show that is / was.

Just got my first one of these fusers and it looks confusing initially, but I'm sure we'll all get used to it.
I'll probably have to print off the bulletin and tape it to every one of these fuser boxes for a while, because I know I'll be getting calls from the other techs if I don't.

So let's test this new fuser - load standard 80gsm paper into the tray, but set the paper as "thin" and print 10 pages of black gradation pattern from service mode. Check if toner is properly fused.

I just received 2 550i style and 1 450i style in place of a few Version 1 warranty replacements. We still have a couple of the original Version 1 fusers on hand, but with as fast as the V1's fail, it won't be long before we start installing these. I agree, it looks like quite the mess initially, at least until all the machines get converted over to handle the new fusers.

Inside the fuser box is an instruction sheet along with a metal spacer plate and a longer screw. I didn't look too closely at it, but it looks like if you are installing the compatible fuser into a V1 machine for the first time, you have to install the additional metal spacer under the black plastic font fuser guide in the copier and replace one of the screws with the longer one to accommodate the extra height of the guide. Then you have to make sure the firmware is updated and an Engine switch is set properly depending on what model the machine is.

KM makes it really complicated and confusing... First you have to ad the plate, after they modified the fuser and have to remove the plate with the new fusers... (only 450i/550i/650i)
Now are Fusers Version 2 available..

That is very interesting. That is the first I've ever heard (or even read) of the fusing belt breaking issue. We have multiple hundred units out in the field and have never had that happen to a single machine. The issue we experience with the fusers is the surface of the belt wears through and you end up with toner sticking to the belt and then really dirty pages. I'm curious if the belt breaking problem is unique to the fusing units outside the US.

              Lately they said:
              - Fusing unit 2 needs always 2 plates
              - Fusing unit 1 needs always 1 plate except C750i/750i where there are 2 of them
Funny how they hocus-pocus with us. I don't feel excited as I predict new improved fusers to be same sh*t.

                Yes... about the new fusers...
I received yesterday a delivery of new c250i. These are already equipped with the new Fuser2. You can see on the backcover that the filter is sticking out and is no more plain.
And of corse on the SNR of the Fusers AA2JA74Fxxxxxxxx upward.

It's really tiring. Which configuration is the right one now? so that the Fuser lasts longer.
...not to mention that the first 3 devices I unpacked all made annoying noises from the power supply, but that's for another thread.
