    Lexmark XM1145 with Scanner error

I have a XM1145 displaying Firmware Error HsIr_4:9187 and HsIr_4:9187 in a blue screen on the LD panel.

The scanner will not move and the copier will not copy?

Do you think the MFP blew a board and is the copier now uneconomical to repair?

The XM1145 was delivered with the latest firmware at the time.

The XM1145 was discontinued in April 2018 and is not covered by any service contract.

    I'd agree with that. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: Lexmark XM1145 with Scanner error

In the end, I found a used XM1145 with 61k clicks in my inventory and sold it to the customer for $750.00. The toner was 75% and the imaging unit was 60%.

The customer was able to reuse their 2nd paper cassette and keep their supplies from the dead XM1145.

The customer is a low print volume, small construction company.

I had no interest in trying to find boards or make the effort to repair the old copier.

I put the replacement XM1145 in and now I am getting three vertical blue lines. See attached.

The lines do not appear when scanning off the glass only via the Doc Feeder.

I cleaned the Slit Glass but maybe I missed something.

        Any ideas?

My first guess? There's some blue pen ink on the slit glass that will come off with alcohol or paraffin lamp oil. I had one real estate customer that gave out these crappy blue pens that the ink never dried. They were constantly calling for those blue lines. Or maybe the glass is scratched. It's common on Lexmarks, from dragging stapled originals across the glass.

My second guess? Light source #1 in the scanner is dusty, dirty. The outside of the light source #1 can be cleaned fairly easily. While you have the scanner split, be sure to clean both sides of the glass thoroughly. It's no more difficult that changing the scanner drive belt. The inside of the scan unit is rather delicate, and can be damaged unintentionally. The good news is that I only damaged the first one ... all the others survived. Use cotton swabs & alcohol.

By light source #1 are you referring to the narrow slit glass? By splitting the scanner are you suggesting I need to remove the entire scanner assembly?

I mean the moving CCD unit under the glass, and yes you must remove the scanner and invert it to get to the screws. =^..^=

i have had it happen to me before. even though i cleaned the adf glass, there is still something faint on the glass. i take the copy with the lines on it. put it face up on the platen. and trace my finger across the line to the adf glass. rotate the paper, it is never dead center. even cleaning with a liquid doesn't always do the trick. then i resort to the ole thumbnail and rub it off. and i have had it appear as a color line. even though the spot on the glass appears to be black.

So the proper solution is I sold them a new e409A with 2nd cassette. The 478s is for the copier graveyard.

These Lexmarks style desktop A4 copiers are only ever meant to last five years.
