President Trump announced on Thursday PM $50B of tariffs on Chinese manufactured goods.
This AM China announced that the USA has initiated a trade war with China and would reciprocate with its own tariffs against US manufactured product.
Over 1,300 goods will be subject to tariffs entering the USA from China. Including:
84439925 ...........Parts and accessories of printers
84439945 ...........Parts and accessories of copying machines
84439950 ...........Parts and accessories of other printing, copying or facsimile machines
It seems pretty clear that President Trump plans to fund the massive US deficit by imposing tariffs on imported goods flowing into the USA.
It is equally clear that those countries that have had tariffs imposed upon them will impose reciprocal tariffs against the USA.
Whatever money you thought Trump was going to save you in taxes just disappeared when you purchase goods not made in the USA.
President Trump is dramatically accelerating US isolationism from the rest of the world.
I do know that the Phililipines does manufacture a significant % of the copier and printers in the world but I am sure the majority of product comes from China.Comment

The game is on now for President Trump!. China just slapped a 25% tariff on $50B of US imported goods. China owns a huge % of US debt.
I now believe Trump is way in over his head and this is going to drag all the way into the mid-terms and sink the Republican majority in the house. Maybe the Senate! Maybe impeachment!
Trump's bravado is not going to carry any more and some very serious deescalation of the global tariff war initiated by the USA has to stop STAT! STAT! STAT! .

US tariffs on Canadian softwood have increased the cost to build a single family home by $9,000.00 on average since Jan 2017.
Softwood lumber prices have increased since last year by 67% due to a combination of tariiffs, high demand, wildfires and rising transportation costs. There is a severe shortage of affordable entry level homes in the USA as builders are forced to concentrate their efforts on more expensive higher end homes.Comment

So, when China and the rest of our so called trading partners impose tariffs on our goods, which your previously elected officials have allowed, that supposedly costs the US consumers. How in anyone's reason can the US imposing likewise tariffs also cost the US consumers? Its a line of BS. We have been giving away the store and reducing our manufacturing capacity for decades. At some point, when we have no ability to do it ourselves the ultimate price of your elected officials enriching themselves and their families will be paid by yes, the US consumers. We will have no way to make durable goods and control pricing of such things when we make none of them.

It is simple math really. If I am selling you something and you charge a tariff for me to sell you that product, I will have to raise the price of the product. Thus that product will cost you more to purchase. It is basic economics that trump doesn't seem to understand.Comment

Tariffs are really a US gov't tax on imported goods and its citizens.
The sales pitch is to make imported goods more expensive so as to encourage US consumers to purchase goods manufactured in the USA.
What really happens is the the tariff taxes collected go directly into US Gov't general revenues. The tariffs do not help any US consumer or industry group.
Tariffs are a part of how President Trump plans to pay for a some of the massive US gov't debt that he is rapidly increasing.
Tariffs, historically, have never worked. They only succeed in alienating the USA's key trading partners.Comment

On July 6th, the USA copier/ printer industry will begin to experience tariff increases on copier parts and supplies imported from China. At this time, "copy machines" are not on the list of goods subject to tariffs. A month earlier, they were on the list.
I can only suggest that all of the major manufacturers are probably stocking up ahead of that date so as not to immediately have to pass price increases onto their customers and perhaps loose market share. They probably hope that this unnecessary tariff war with Chiba will pass by the fall.Comment
