Just came across an old Locator mag. Anyone remember this? This mag/newspaper was where I first found a place that sold supplies to refill "SX" HP II & III toner cartridges. They even supplied a video that showed you how to disassemble and refill. Funny they never showed the persons face in video because of fear of being sued by HP. This was back in the late 80's early 90's when OEM's protected everything and would sue to keep it protected. Sharp was the only option that would allow "distributors" to sell low volume machines and parts to us Indy's. How things have changed.....

Re: Locator magazine ???
I got a print quality call on a HP IIIP once. They had just put in a refilled cartridge. They still had the old cartridge so I shook it a couple of times and put it back in. Good quality. Told the customer to call who ever they got the refilled cartridge from. -
Re: Locator magazine ???
Yea, back in the day a refilled cartridge was just that, no drum, cl blade. They failed a lot. Before you know it there were dozens of companies selling everything necessary to "remanufacturer" or "rebuild" the complete cartridge. Even supplying the instructions to rebuild them.Comment

Re: Locator magazine ???
We just had a fight, and won, with one of the senior salesman who just sold a heap of printers with a contract to supply "white box" no name toner. We just kept giving him the bill for the wasted time and damage this foul stuff did to the printers.
The Big Boss must be getting fed up with him as well as he back us and stopped a chunk of the salesman's commission.

Re: Locator magazine ???
At Ikon we had our own brand of re-manufactured HP cartridges. Sales always promised the 40% cost savings, but never seemed to remember to mention the 50% early failure rate, most of those immediately.
As a tech we were constantly faced with the task of explaining the risks of remanufactured cartridges and the associated early failure rate. You CAN count on the cost savings as long as you were willing to stock twice as many cartridges as you actually needed, then return for free replacement the ones that failed early.
Most of the larger customers got tired of the screwing around with poor quality cartridges quickly, then switched back to OEM. The worst part was that the remans were branded with our name, so they expected techs to drive out to pick up their crappy cartidges.
Some of the failures were quite interesting. The more catastrophic failures, like no cleaning blade or no charge roller were pretty entertaining. =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Nothing like telling a customer that all reman cartridges are junk...except ours.

Re: Locator magazine ???
I'm not big on aftermarket supplies but for "B&W" HP printers, especially the LJ4250 and older models they work 80-90%.
*** NEVER aftermarket for anything color! it's just 4 x's the headache !!!Comment

Re: Locator magazine ???
We did do our own rebuilds and made a fair amount off of them. Most of what we refilled/rebuilt were the HP 4 era printer cartridges and Canon pc copier toners, PC20,to PC770's range of machines. Only for machines we worked on. We could sell for about what the big box stores were selling aftermarket supplies and still made enough to make it worthwhile. We did not sell to customers with machines we did not service. The other little bit of info. We had a set of test printers and copiers to test the rebuilt/refilled toners in before they left out building. And each rebuilt/refill had five test prints in the box with the toner cartridge. There was supplier we used but it has been so long ago I do not remember. They had drums, blades, toners, charge rollers and even main charge corona assemblesComment
