Sounds similar to the oooooold Nashua liquid copiers. Did I destroy some good quality work cloths servicing those things.
I can't even remember the model numbers on the liquid copiers it was that long ago....
I can vaguely remember feelings of joy when we traded the last of those liquid machines out of the field.

For what its worth, there is more selenium in eating Brazilian nuts than what you would have absorbed through your skin polishing selenium drums.

I remember when copiers were just copiers and remember when digital started to come out and they need Fiery's in order for them to connect to the network.
Ha-ha, yea the Japs could build a state of the art copier but could never figure out how to make a shock absorber to hold open a copier. Instead they designed work arounds like brackets that locked under the collapsed shock absorber, etc, etc

I also remember having to be able to read wiring diagrams, and tracing circuts and being able to use a multi-meter to test and to see if certain circuits had the proper voltages. Want to have fun with a newbie...hand him a multi-meter and ask them to ohm out a motor or solenoid, I suppose it like maps vs. GPS. I remember bad exposure lamps, heat lamps, thermisters, and also when cleaning a copier also involved cleaning the optics under the platen glass.

How about the Canon 220/230 fax machines? As they aged, the CCD optics needed cleaning, but the odds were ever increasing that the power supply would not survive shutting it off, and you can't disassemble it without shutting it off.

So all my service calls started with this little talk: Yes, you're fax machine needs cleaning, but ... the odds are 50/50 that it won't wake up again if we turn it off. Do you want to take that chance?

And the DF feed rubber on these machines would literally fall off the hubs, and land in the CCD optics.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
              1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
              2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
              3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
              4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
              5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I know the Olivetti version was the 1810, think the Sharp was SF-781. There were 2 models, one didn't have the talk feature if I remember correctly. Didn't that machine take a big master like it's little brother SF-756? Speaking of the SF-756, that little machine made me a lot of money. PM's every 8k at $300 a pop, about $125 profit. Was doing at least 2 PM's a day plus other service calls. Rate was $39 hour + $9 hour travel. That was like late 80's into early 90's.

                    Hey!

Check platen glass with a bubble level, and use a small crowbar to lift the machine as you spin
the adjustable threaded feet to set the beast flat.

I made a living working on those. At least the 230 had a function to tell you if the phone line priority was reversed, unlike the 220. If it was wrong, they would receive, but not dial out to send.

Remember the 350, and the power supply caps (I think there were 6) that blew from heat, and there was a kit that included higher temp ones?

I remember working on Gestetner 2130, don't remember the Mita number....Anyway, unplugging and plugging the unit, you had a 50/50 chance of blowing the Power Supply. Sadly, took a little while to this figure this out. P.S became standard car stock.

From what I remember there was a greater threat from the polishing compound than there was from the selenium.

I think the Cadmium Sulfide drums were more dangerous than selenium. Plus slim is right, there was this polish for the CDS drums called Pikel from Sharp. Stuff was deadly.

Are you talking about the Mita that the pwr supply was on top under moving table exp glass. It would get so hot that the cover would turn brown from heat. Was it the Mita 152z ? That was a decent machine for back then. Put in same category as the Toshiba 3301, a good small box.
