Cuomo: UK’s COVID-19 mutation ‘is on a plane to JFK’ without testing

France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland and Bulgaria have all announced bans or strict restrictions on UK travelers


Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Sunday called it "reprehensible" and "grossly negligent" to allow UK travelers to fly into JFK Airport without being tested despite a contagious new mutation of the coronavirus shutting down London.

"Right now. Today," the governor stressed, calling for the feds to impose coronavirus testing of UK travelers at a "minimum," if not an outright ban.

"Literally six flights a day. And all it takes is one person," he said of the possible seed for the new strain’s spread.

So far, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, Ireland and Bulgaria have all announced bans or strict restrictions on UK travelers since Johnson announced London’s lockdown on Saturday.

"The New York Port Authority has no authority to ban passengers, health monitor passengers. It’s federal," he said.

Gov Cuomo also feared that there was only a "working assumption" that the coronavirus vaccines would be effective against the new strain, saying, "the experts have been so wrong … I take it all with a grain of salt, to tell you the truth."

Canada, India, Hungary and Switzerland are among the latest countries to halt flights from the U.K., following the lead of many in Europe. France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland and Ireland were among those who on Sunday announced widespread restrictions on flights from the U.K. Eurotunnel, the rail service that links Britain with mainland Europe, has also suspended services.

Brett Giroir, the assistant health secretary in the United States, said on Monday that it was possible the U.S. would also ban travel from the U.K. as a new variant of the deadly coronavirus spreads in the country, but added nothing had been decided yet.

To me the problem isn't that trump lost control of the covid response. The real problem is that he took control from the experts and then just pretended it wasn't happening.

There was a lot of stuff going on in the middle of the pandemic. Including mass protests (BLM/Anfita) all over the USA with no regard for Covid rules. In their infinite wisdom, democrats gave the OK for mass protests and said to hell with any covid restrictions.

What 'experts' do you mean? Maybe the senile Dr. Fauci who on January 21st said "this is not a major threat" and that it is not something to worry about.

Most of the fresh produce that enter the UK crosses from France via the underwater Chunnel or ferries that links Britain. 16,000+ trucks cross every day. The backlog and supply chain implications are enormous when these trucks are being temporarily stopped because of new COVID-19 strain fears.

Fauci said it's over-reaction to ban flights from the United Kingdom. That's YOUR expert. You're not disagreeing with an expert are you? Why is Canada banning the U.K.?
