Back in the real world I remember you and I having a conversation in which you told me that Canada would have no supply issues. And I told you that you would because despite Canada's "contracts" with other countries that you would end up getting the short end of the stick. And you did.

Canada claims to have one of the world's best healthcare systems but is playing catch-up to produce their own vaccine that's about a year away. That wouldn't be cool with me if I lived in Canada. I might even question my leaders. You're whistling past the graveyard.

TORONTO -- Countries like Canada that are waiting for vaccine shipments amid an international shortage could have done more in the early days of the pandemic to boost their own domestic production capacity, according to a leading vaccine expert from the United Kingdom.

Oxford University Regius professor of medicine Sir John Bell was responsible for overseeing the development of the Astrazeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccine, which is approved in the U.K. but not yet in Canada. He said the U.K. went to great lengths to scale up its production in early 2020 as vaccine trials began.


Canada received zero new shipments of vaccines earlier this week
But the U.K. and the U.S. have not seen the same slowdown because they have a larger production capacity.




The federal government has invested more than $126 million to build a new biomanufacturing facility in Montreal to help produce vaccine candidates for emergency use. The site remains under construction and is expected to be ready by July.





One way to speed up vaccine distribution would be to approve more vaccines. Bell pointed to the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine, which is still under review by Health Canada, as one possibility.

Health Canada revealed Friday that it is on track to approve the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine by mid-February and suggested that a fourth vaccine approval may not be far behind.

Michael Osterholm, a top infectious disease expert who served on President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 Advisory Board during the presidential transition, is warning citizens that two face masks may actually do more harm, increasing the ability to get infected.

“When we talk about double masking, remember what we’re really talking about is just trying to prevent the virus from being excreted by me into the air or me inhaling the virus from someone else in the air, and it’s both a function of face fit and face filtration,” Osterholm tells the very negative Chuck Todd on Meet the Press.

“So, what we’re concerned about is that many of these face cloth coverings do have already compromised fit or filtration capacity,” Osterholm goes on. “If you add on another mask, you may actually make it tougher for the air to move through the two-cloth area, and then at that point, it causes more air to actually leak around the sides, which actually enhances your ability to get infected.”

“Think about your swim goggles,” Osterholm says before asking the key question: “When’s the last time anybody leaked at the lenses? They leak at the fit.”


Osterholm does say, at times, when used a certain way, two masks can be effective but many times double-masking is doing more harm.

Instead of wearing two masks as most suggest in the media, Osterholm says to just make sure your mask is under your nose. Seems reasonable, no?

I was quite skeptical of the two masks idea when the New York Times bought in citing “data.” When the (failing) New York Times quotes data, I close the webpage.

The choice, for now, is up to you. Social media does say everyone should be more like Kamala Harris, a two-mask-wearer, so there is that…

Nine of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's top health officials have left their posts or retired in the past several months as Cuomo takes heat for his coronavirus vaccine rollout plan that was designed with help from hospital executives, The New York Times reported on Monday.
That includes Elizabeth Dufort, medical director of the division of epidemiology, Jill Taylor, director of Wadsworth laboratory where scientists detect virus variants, the director of the state bureau of communicable disease control and the official in charge of health data, according to state records analyzed by The New York Times.


Meanwhile, Cuomo downplayed the importance of experts and crafted his own coronavirus vaccine rollout instead of using a plan top state health officials were working on that grew out of "years of preparations at the local level," according to The New York Times.
"The governor's approach in the beginning seemed to go against the grain in terms of what the philosophy was about how to do this," Dr. Isaac Weisfuse, a former deputy commissioner at New York City's Health Department, told The New York Times. "It did seem to negate 15 to 20 years of work."

N95 masks are designed to remove more than 95% of all particles that are The Coronavirus has been measured at .027 microns.

The Flu Virus is something like 250 times bigger than the Covid virus!!
