Re: The Shining City Upon a Hill
One reason that the USA fought for our independence is taxes. Well, dems want to take us back there.
Under the Biden tax proposal:
Top earning New Yorkers could face 61.2% combined tax rate under House plan, Californians may face 59% rate

Which means NYC top earners will work 223 days a year for the government, and that same government will generously let them keep 142 days of earnings. Let that sink in

... this is known as diplomacy. How else would you expect the US to keep the new Taliban gov't engaged? Afghanistan has been one of the Top 3 countries in the world to receive foreign aid. The money to be forwarded was already earmarked for Afghanistan and is for humanitarian assistance.
- At least 1 million children in Afghanistan will suffer from severe acute malnutrition this year, UNICEF’s executive director warned.
- Henrietta Fore’s remarks come at a pivotal time for international aid to Afghanistan.
- Since the Taliban takeover Aug. 15, most developed nations in the West have frozen their direct aid to Afghanistan.

This is what you call stupid. We send money to a country that is run by the top terrorists in the world.
We should put the cash in a plane and fly it into a building and just get it over with.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

... almost as much as the USA.
August 26, 2021 - Ottawa, Ontario - Global Affairs Canada
Canada is deeply concerned by the rapidly evolving situation in Afghanistan and its impact on the humanitarian needs of crisis-affected people as it continues to worsen.
Today, the Government of Canada is announcing an allocation of $50 million for the initial humanitarian response and will be ready to respond to further United Nations and Red Cross appeals. Based on identified needs, Canada will work through trusted humanitarian partners, such as the World Food Programme, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Committee of the Red Cross, who have operational capacity on the ground both inside Afghanistan and in neighbouring countries.Comment
