Apple suspends all product sales in Russia

Apple (AAPL) has stopped selling all of its products in Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine, the company announced Tuesday.

The company said in a statement that it is “deeply concerned” about the Russian invasion and that in response, it has “paused all product sales” in the country. Apple also said it has moved to limit access to digital services, such as Apple Pay, inside Russia, and restricted the availability of Russian state media applications outside the country.

“Last week, we stopped all exports into our sales channel in the country. Apple Pay and other services have been limited. RT News and Sputnik News are no longer available for download from the App Store outside Russia,” Apple said. “And we have disabled both traffic and live incidents in Apple Maps in Ukraine as a safety and precautionary measure for Ukrainian citizens.”

Apple’s decision comes as tech companies have faced increasing public pressure to act against Russia. The Ukrainian government last week had asked Apple to stop offering its app store in Russia, but some security and democracy experts said that that could harm Russian users who are protesting the Kremlin and who rely on Western tools to organize.

Facebook, YouTube and Twitter have all begun cracking down on content shared by Russian media amid intensifying pressure from European officials to act against pro-Russian propaganda. Netflix also said it is refusing to air Russian state TV channels in the country.

Following news of Apple’s decision on Tuesday, Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov tweeted that Apple CEO Tim Cook should “finish the job” and again urged the company to “block” access to its app store in Russia.

The article used as a source came from the very biased Breitbart News using cherry picked data to present a conclusion not based on facts.

Nolte: Joe Biden's America Pays Putin $70 Million Per Day for Oil (breitbart.com)

The USA imports on average 80,000 barrels of oil per day from Russia in 2021, not the 209,000 barrels quoted at average prices per barrel far less than the $106.00 per barrel quoted. As Russian imports are now hard to monetize, oil traders have already begun to dramatically reduce their purchases.

The author John Nolte is the senior writer at Breitbart which is directed by Steve Bannon indicted on criminal charges of misdirecting money raised into his pocket to fund the US southern border wall.

Another squeeze on Russia: Three shipping companies won’t sail there

Two of the world’s biggest container shipping companies are halting cargo bookings to and from Russia.

“As the stability and safety of our operations is already being directly and indirectly impacted by sanctions, new Maersk bookings to and from Russia will be temporarily suspended, with exception of foodstuffs, medical and humanitarian supplies,” shipping giant Maersk said in a statement on Tuesday.

“We are deeply concerned by how the crisis keeps escalating in Ukraine,” the company added, noting that it has started “seeing the effect on global supply chain flows such as delays, detention of cargo by customs authorities across various transshipment hubs, unpredictable operational impacts.”
The Denmark-based company added that it “cannot receive from or make payments to any sanctioned Russian banks, or any other sanctioned party.”

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company, a Swiss-owned container shipping line, also said it will stop all cargo bookings to and from Russia starting Tuesday. That will include “all access areas including Baltics, Black Sea and Far East Russia,” the company said in a statement.

But MSC, which recently passed Maersk to become the world’s largest container shipping company, according to shipping analytics firm Alphaliner, will continue to accept and screen bookings for delivery of essential goods such as food, medical equipment and humanitarian goods.
Another shipping company, CMA CGM, also suspended all bookings to and from Russia on Tuesday “in the interest of safety.”

“Our utmost priorities remain to protect our employees and ensure as much as possible the continuity of your supply chain,” said the company.

The halt of sailings is not required by the sanctions being placed on Russia by Western nations in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last week. But it is a further sign that businesses are finding it in their own interests to cut business ties with the country, and such moves are placing additional stress on the Russian economy.

These ship lines primarily sail ships that carry containers of goods, rather than bulk cargo carriers such as oil tankers or those carrying wheat and other commodities. Their refusal sail to Russian ports will put a squeeze on that nation’s ability to receive imported goods that it depends upon.

The reluctance of oil tankers to call on Russia is also curtailing Russia’s sales of oil, even though the sanctions specifically allow for Russian energy exports in order to mitigate disruption to global energy markets.

There's important business going on in congress. This is not a joke.

CONGRESS: On the House floor, Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-FL) promotes the CROWN Act to combat hair discrimination: "Hair discrimination is rooted in systemic racism. Anti-Black hair sentiments on US soil has existed for centuries."

You just need to stop. If you have a problem with anything, take it up with your local politicians. Leave me out of it.

You need to start going on the record on the issues. We all clearly state where we stand on the issues. All you do is put us down for our opinions. It's time you start going on record and stop refusing to state your position. If we can stand the heat, so can you.

Where do you stand on this issue? This is a real quote by a sitting member of congress.

It would be nice if you would debate the issues by going on the record. I see that's not in your plans. It's your choice if all you want to do is bash others and express your hate for Trump. I suppose you need an outlet for it. Better that than you shoot up a school or something.
