    Tariffs & the printer industry

Effective April 9th, the USA imposes 124% tariffs on all product imported from China. The tariffs are not paid by China, they are paid by US importers.

Many players in the OEM printer market manufacture all or some of their product line in China.

I am sure many of the printer OEMs stuffed their warehouses in the USA full of product in anticipation of this very disruptive event that could reduce demand for new OEM printer product. It could make used equipment in the USA more popular in the aftermarket.

Eventually that new inventory in stock will deplete and printer OEMs will have to make some money losing decisions to maintain market share.

That new replacement product could be crazy more expensive and new product launches could be delayed.

China is not intimidated by the USA tariff war against the world and vows to retaliate "until the end" against US trade aggression.

It has already initiated non tariff actions such as cutting off the supply of key rare earth minerals for the US defence and telecommunications industries.

This is going to be a lose/lose situation between the USA/ China until the US changes it's position on tariffs.

Yes, Canada has implemented tariffs on certain Chinese imports, including a 100% surtax on Chinese-made EVs and a 25% surtax on steel and aluminum products from China, effective October 2024.

China is not a capitalist country. The USA is. When it comes to who can stand the losses longer, the USA will have to blink first because a society based on capitalism will demand it. Trump will either comply somehow or Congress will act to repeal the tariffs. There are already draft proposals for the same in the Senate and Congress.

The USA has borrowed heavily from China over the years. China can use that debt as leverage.

China's economy depends on trade with the USA. Ours does not.

... you are so wrong. China has for years been actively working to diversify it's trade away from the USA.

The USA trade war on the rest of the world, has blown open a huge hole in diplomatic relations that China can pour through with both economic and structural incentives.

The USA is no longer cosidered a reliable global trading partner by Canada and other countries.

No. I am not a China promoter. The USA under Trump is no longer master of the world and many countries are looking to diversify trade away from the USA. The USA has become too politically unstable under Dementia Don.

If that were true then why have so many of them wanted to negotiate trade agreements with President Trump? Are you aware that unlike Biden,Trump has take and passed cognitive testing every time it has been requested of him. The only thing that has become politically unstable under the current Administration is the Democrat Party.
