Indirect is the way to go with LED strips but it isn't possible in here. Plus, I'm going for a different effect.


There's been a big change of plans as now I've decided to go with a programmable LED strip with a controller that I will build and download the open sourced software. This will be built on a bread board with step down voltage controllers for 5VDC and 3VDC. The LED strip itself will run on 12VDC.

This is a fairly big undertaking and I may never get done with the game room if I don't stop with the addons.

I'm pretty excited about my decision to switch from an analog LED lights to digital addressable LED's. With analog, the lights can change colors but all the LED's will be the same color at the same time. You can't have individual colors nor programmable effects.


Check out the video below. It's very cool.I've ordered everything I need. It's quite the project but I should be able to pull it off.

I HATE floating sheetrock and painting. I'm finally done with that part and can move on to installing the rubber base board around the room and my LED strips should be in on Wednesday.

All of my toys arrive today via Amazon. I love electronics gadgets and this game room gives me a blank canvas to play with. Admittingly, I'm going a bit overboard.


Here's the setup.

I have a the following:

--BlissLights Sky Lite - LED Laser Star Projector, Galaxy Light, Nebula Lamp (Blue Stars, Blue Cloud)

This will project a planetarium scene on the ceiling.

--Nanoleaf Canvas Multicolor Light Panel Smarter Kit - 9 Light Squares

These are are light squares that mount on the wall and they are interactive. These are supercool. Google them because it's hard for me to explain what they do.


-- Indivdually addressable LED light strips (16 feet long x 5) that will go along the edges of the ceiling.

They will put on a cool light show.


There's some other small stuff, too. Will post pictures when complete.

My controller chip won't be in until Tuesday but here's some pics of other lights that I've put up. The pics don't do them justice. The camera phone just isn't able to properly capture the colors and the lights are interactive. Really need to see video. Here it is anyway...

This is the NanoLeaf. You can add as many tiles as you want but they're kinda expensive. These are set to dance to music. The pic doesn't do them justice. They're the coolest.

So, the man cave that I'm putting together is going thru some major changes. I hung a 75" TV on the wall and I have the Yamaha surround receiver on order. Also on order is Klipsch Flagship speakers. This is gonna be the one awesome surround sound experience.

I also have a couple of Serta Theater Power Recliners on order.

All that's left is the arcade games.

This got outta hand quickly.

I finally got the LED strips working the way they should. It was a massive project that involved building circuits on a breadboard and downloading and installing software - WLED.

This is the most freakin' awesome light show. It blows my mind. Wow.

It's time to give some updates on the Man Cave.

First things first. If you ever have a chance to create a man cave of your own, I encourage you. But just know that it can become more expensive than you intended. I'm a bit of a recovering audiophile, so I was unwilling to cut corners on receivers, amps, or speakers. This quickly got out of control and ran into the thousands of dollars. I'm still waiting on some of it to be delivered so I haven't heard it yet but it should be delivered on Friday. It better sound awesome.


I was also very specific when it came to the pool table and fooshball table that I wanted. I got a Valley pool table and a Tornado fooshball table. Both are very good quality but it also reminds me of my youth and that was important to me.


The video arcade games are 1up Arcade and weren't that expensive. I think about $500 each.

Then there's the 75 inch TV and theatre power recliners. That wasn't cheap, either.

Odds and ends:

- LED lighting
- 3D Holographic Fan
-27 x 40 backlit movie poster frames.
- 5 x 10 area rug


And then there's the ecteronic dart board that was given to me. I gutted the electronics from the cabinet and put a 24" TV with Chromecast and ordered a Gran Board 3s from Japan. Couldn't find one anywhere here in the USA. I'm modding the hell out of this Dart Board Cabinet with LEDS, 5 inch speakers and a subwoofer.

PS - The dart board is plugged into the 24" TV via Chromecast and keeps score...as well as displays other info.
