Re: The War in Ukraine
... a person who has researched the topic would know that Tesla's StarLink product has a lot of limitations made much worse in a destroyed city like Mariupol. If there is no electricity available, StarLink is useless.
StarLink is a short range, low power solution not much bigger than a suitcase with a limited number of access points for people nearby.
In the USA, people actually request that their StarLink installs be removed.Comment

Russians hand control of Chornobyl nuclear plant back to Ukraine, IAEA says
- Russian troops that took over the Chornobyl nuclear power plant have transferred control back to Ukraine, the International Atomic Energy Agency said.
- The IAEA said those Russian troops moved two convoys toward Kremlin-allied Belarus, while a third convoy left the nearby city of Slavutych, also toward Belarus.
- The agency added that it “has not been able to confirm reports of Russian forces receiving high doses of radiation while being in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.”
Russian troops that took over the Chornobyl nuclear power plant last month have transferred control back to Ukraine, the International Atomic Energy Agency said Thursday, citing information from Ukraine.
Multiple convoys of Russian troops in the area have also moved back toward Kremlin-allied Belarus on Ukraine’s northern border, Kyiv told the IAEA.
The Russian forces, which had held the nuclear facility since Feb. 24, “in writing” returned control of the Chornobyl plant to Ukrainian personnel, the IAEA said in a press release.
The agency added that it “has not been able to confirm reports of Russian forces receiving high doses of radiation while being in the Chornobyl Exclusion Zone.”
The IAEA said those Russian troops moved two convoys toward Belarus, while a third convoy left the nearby city of Slavutych, where many of the nuclear plant’s staff live, also toward Belarus.
“In addition, Ukraine reported that there are still some Russian forces on the Chornobyl NPP site but presumed that those forces are preparing to leave,” the IAEA statement said.
U.S. intelligence appeared to back up Ukraine’s information. “We have seen indications that some Russian forces are departing the Chernobyl plant facility,” Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said in a press briefing Thursday afternoon.
“We gather that they are leaving to the north to go back again towards Belarus. But again, indications are not completely clear at this time,” Kirby said.Comment

Re: The War in Ukraine
Why would you even use the word Nazi and why would Phil B, Slimslob and Skynet endorse the use of this word in this context?
Over 100,000 Mariupol residents remain remain stranded in the city living in poor conditions.
Today, Ukraine tried to send 12 buses loaded with 14 tons of humanitarian aid into the city. The Russian army seized the aid including food .
2,000 people fleeing Mariupol are now on buses to Ukrainian-held city, council says
From CNN's Olga Voitovych in Lviv and Maria Kostenko in Chernivtsi
Around 2,000 civilians are on evacuation buses heading from the coastal city of Berdyansk to the Ukrainian government-held city of Zaporizhzhia, carrying civilians evacuating from the besieged city of Mariupol.
"The evacuation convoy left Berdyansk for Zaporizhzhia," Mariupol city council said in a statement on Telegram. "Many private vehicles have joined the 42 buses escorted by Red Cross and SES (State Emergency Service) vehicles. Today we expect the arrival of a record number of Mariupol residents."
Some background: Russia's ministry of defense said in a statement on Thursday that the Russian military would reopen the evacuation corridor from the besieged city of Mariupol to Zaporizhzhia on Friday at the request of French and German leaders.
The ministry's announcement came as Ukrainian officials said that humanitarian convoys ran into several issues on Thursday, including Russian troops confiscating aid and blocking buses.
Russian forces had confiscated 14 tons of humanitarian aid from buses bound for Melitopol in southern Ukraine, according to Ukranian minister Iryna Vereshchuk.
Vereshchuk said the food and medication was loaded on 12 buses. She added that Russian forces also blocked 45 buses going to Berdyansk on Thursday en route to Mariupol, where about 100,000 civilians remained trapped.

Unfortunately, all the Western media in unison pick up the false Ukrainian propaganda, in fact, the Russian military, risking their lives, rescued civilians from Mariupol, who were forcibly taken to life as hostages by the Ukrainian Nazis. And so everywhere. All information is turned upside down .. I perfectly understand that I will not be heard. Millions have been invested in propaganda.Comment

... the citizens of Mariupol would not have to flee their city in peril if the Russians have not been busy destroying it with high explosives.
Assuming by Nazis you are referring to the fascist movement in Germany from 1939 - 1945, Ukrainian Fascists/Nazis is 100% Russian propaganda.
I do agree that millions of rubles have been invested in Soviet propaganda and that Vladimir Putin remains a hero to many in Russia.Comment

Re: The War in Ukraine
The Zelensky deepfake is a warning
Last month, a false video circulated online that seemed to show Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky telling his soldiers to surrender to the Russian invasion. The video — a mediocre lip-sync of Zelensky’s face and voice — was the product of artificial intelligence manipulation, commonly known as a deepfake. It is unclear who made the deepfake, but the Ukrainian government had been warning for weeks that Russia may push manipulated media.
The video quickly spread on social media. Zelensky promptly responded with a video of his own from the streets of Kyiv, proclaiming that he will continue to defend Ukraine, and that the country’s citizens will only lay down their arms when they are victorious against Russia. And, the same day, major social media companies removed the deepfake for violating their policies on misinformation and manipulated media.
The Zelensky deepfake failed to unleash confusion and mayhem, as seems to have been the intention. As Sam Gregory, the program director for the human rights group WITNESS, observed, it was a “best-case scenario” for a situation like this. The Ukrainian government had engaged in extensive “prebunking” — warning of possible manipulated videos before they emerged. The deepfake itself was of poor quality.
A credible person (Zelensky) quickly rebutted the deepfake’s message to his millions of social media followers. And the deepfake clearly violated social media platform policies against manipulated content, allowing the deepfake to be removed, Gregory said.
The ease with which deepfakes are made and distributed illuminates a growing risk not only to governments, but also to the private sector — where the use of believable manipulated media could be used to confuse customers, partners and employees and damage corporate brands and valuations.
The deepfakes can be spread by any number of bad actors, from competitors to disgruntled former employees, from trolls motivated by spite to profiteers seeking a payday through fraud, to foreign states that see strategic advantage in damaging the business community.
First, much as President Zelensky and his government removed the deepfake’s sting by warning ahead of time about the prospect of manipulated media, everyone prepare for growing cyber threats, and deepfakes, in particular.
Zelensky benefited from having both a massive online megaphone and an established, authentic voice. A video announcing surrender simply didn’t seem like something he would say.
The growing popularity of deepfakes and the ingenuity of bad actors who adapt old swindles to new technology make it imperative that citizens prepare for these burgeoning attempts at influence peddling.Comment
