Re: Are republicans winning?
But it's not like only religious people have morals. Sometimes, in all honesty, it seems just the opposite.
Also, one doesn't need religion to know it's wrong to kill someone else.Comment

Re: Are republicans winning?
Understood. I'm just saying that if a good idea is brought to the table that we shouldn't dismiss it because it's based on religious teachings. So, in conclusion, I would ask that you amend your statement that says religion has no place in government. Who cares where it comes from so long as it makes sense?

I'm not arguing that good ideas don't come from many places, but in the same list you quoted there is a rule concerning worshipping another god and the consequences of that are death. Definitely not something you want anyone in power trying to enforceComment

Re: Are republicans winning?
The problem with your argument is that there is a religion that you do believe in, the religion of government. You argue that government should be the god that controls all, business, our healthcare, our electric grid, everything. If that's not worship of a higher power, then what is it?Comment

Re: Are republicans winning?
What I said first is religion should not have a controlling interest in government.

I don't think there's much daylight between us on this issue. Generally speaking, I'd like to keep religion out of government.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Just to be clear, I don't worship anything or anyone. No matter what some ancient book says, nobody is perfect. Nobody is worthy of worship.Comment

Re: Are republicans winning?
I will tell you this. I would rather have someone who is alive right now making the rules instead of being forced to follow the rules that some guy made up thousands of years ago.

Re: Are republicans winning?
And, to be fair, I didn't actually say I trusted the government. But I certainly don't trust men who lived thousands of years ago. I would just rather have people living in the same moment as me making rules relevant to that moment.Comment

Re: Are republicans winning?
That doesn't seem very smart to me. How long ago did Einstein live? He died about 70 years ago. I can go back further if you wish? There are many brilliant men that lived long ago.
I only have one criteria when trying to make a decision: Does it make sense to me?Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: Are republicans winning?
Do you think stoning your wife because she had impure thoughts is a viable policy? It's a policy that was written by men thousands of years ago. Is drowning a woman because someone believes she is a witch good policy?
In fact, most main stream religions seem to hate women.
That alone should good enough reason to keep power out of their hands.Comment

Then why do people like you treat them like they are and attempt to foist them on everyone else.
Atheist believe that there is no GOD,m unless they happen to be dyslexic and the they believe that there is no DOG. Either way it is still a belief and having a belief IS having a RELIGION. Einstein wasn't in the business of creating policy.

That's interesting. You must really frown upon Islam. And if I'm not mistaken, you have more than a few Muslim political leaders in Canada. I know because I've seen them with a towel wrapped around their head.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: Are republicans winning?
It's not necessarily republicans that are winning, but common sense. There are plenty of republicans that are closer to democrat in thought and action, and some democrats that are closer to what we once considered a republican (JFK would now be considered a moderate republican by his policies). People are tired of the identity politics, tired of the programs that divide, tired of the policies that have failed time and time again. This is what you're seeing. What I would prefer to see is the death of political parties and have the candidates run strictly on their policies. Take the Ds and the Rs off the ballots completely, make people think about who they vote for rather than just voting for a party.
I always investigate my candidates.

While there are some religions that are atheistic (certain sects of Buddhism, for example), that does not mean that atheism is a religion.
