It is illegal for anyone, except (for the most part) the police and the military, to possess them. The law restricts handguns by requiring a registration certificate to possess them and a permit, issued under limited and temporary circumstances only, to carry them.

Many Americans who arrive at the border are told by Canadian Porder Patrol that they can relinguish their firearms or not enter the country. These same Americans can reclaim their handguns for a storage fee when they return to the USA.

If an American enters Canada with a handgun and are stopped by police and cannot prove they have the necessary permits, they willl be immedialtely arrested and deported with likely no second chance to ever return.

In Canada, only criminals possess handguns.

I cannot imagine anything more stupid that to allow people to carry handguns (concealed or not) into a place that sells alcohol or public events.

In Canada, personal freedoms do not exceed public safety.
