    Yes we are I believe.

Phil B. is out of this forum for quite a lot of time, even slimslob with his wisdom realised playing these games is rather stressful and that leaves you 3 guys alone to train your chat skills.
Pretty much useless for anyone but you.
I don't want to block any decent tech but I fear it's time...
With all due respect nobody is forcing you to read any of the non tech related threads.
Billy and I trade barbs, but for me I can say I hold no I'll will towards him. I don't choose the people I talk to by the political views they hold. I'm not sure how Billy feels, but that's my opinion.
I will say the same thing to you as I do to people who complain about Disney. If it causes stress, don't watch it.

Agree it seems a waste of time but if they want to come to a "tech" forum and bitch and moan about politics that's their business. This is why there is a rant & rave forum, and why it was hidden way down list. Not sure it was intended for politics only but that is what it has become.
700+ posts about "Canada is disgusting" is a little overboard and seems a real waste of time.
I do post some political stuff in Rant & raves but I'm here mainly for the tech forums which has helped me and I've helped others in return.
I do have a few of these people blocked but not necessary if you don't visit Rants & raves. You know what it is so just avoid it.

Entrepreneurs already leaving Canada due to capital gains hike, Wattpad founder Allen Lau says

Tech entrepreneurs are packing up and leaving Canada following the proposed capital gains tax increase from the Feds, says former Wattpad CEO Allen Lau.

In mid-April, Canada’s federal government tabled its 2024 budget, which included intentions to raise the inclusion rate on capital gains taxes from one-half to two-thirds for all gains realized by corporations and trusts. The new rate would only impact individuals with gains above $250,000.

The Canadian tech community has been vocal about concerns to the capital gains tax increase online and in interviews on BNN Bloomberg with a key focus on how it will affect Canada’s productivity landscape. Allen Lau, former CEO and co-founder of Wattpad and current co-founder and operating partner at Two Small Fish Ventures, says Canada’s at risk of losing its tech talent.

"Higher taxes means less capital available, diminishing ownership and less economic benefit, period," said Lau. As a tech venture capitalist investing in Canadian companies, he said the firm is hearing a lot of anger from the start-up community.

"Canadians should own a significant piece of great Canadian companies. But now we are giving away our grand prize to foreign investors," said Lau. "A lot of times, my VC company is the only Canadian investor in Canadian startups."

        Bad policy

When asked if Canadian policy makers are accurately supporting the technology startup community in this country, Lau said “we collectively feel the policy members are forgetting we’ve entered a new era. We are transitioning from the industrial age to the information age, from tangible assets to intangible assets. As a result, we need to own these technologies, [intellectual property] and companies and right now we are going backward."

Lau cites a survey from MaRS, a Toronto-based tech innovation lab, which found that of the more than 150 founders who responded, 95 per cent do not think Canada is the best place to grow a technology company.

The capital gains tax increase “will make it harder for me to find Canadian founders and companies to invest in and these companies are increasingly owned by other countries,” said Lau.

I used to worry that liberals would win every election because of all the free shit they use to buy votes. But I forgot something - liberalism doesn't work. Nowhere in the world is that more true than Canada.

What a year. Trump crushed Joe and Kamala. And Trudeau is outta there.

Sorry, not sorry: Liberals urge Trudeau to go
Canada’s prime minister is under growing pressure from within his party to step aside.

OTTAWA — Canada’s Liberals are done with Justin Trudeau and there will be no more “please” or “thank-you’s” as they work to hustle him out the door.

The federal party lacks a mechanism to oust its leaders, so lawmakers are trying a range of tactics with Trudeau. Discontented backbenchers had hoped he’d notice the polls and take them personally. When that didn’t work, they initiated a quiet revolt and behind closed doors presented him with a letter encouraging him to leave.

“No one is out to humiliate the prime minister,” one member of Parliament told POLITICO at the time.

Now the demands are public and emphatic.

“Relinquish the leadership,” Toronto lawmaker Rob Oliphant told Trudeau in a letter posted to X — one of about 20 MPs in the past week to add his name publicly to the list of caucus members who have urged Trudeau to step aside.

Catherine McKenna, who served in Trudeau’s Cabinet from 2015 to 2021, was the first prominent Liberal to go public over the summer, calling for “new energy and a new leader.” Last week, she was far blunter: “Every Liberal MP should be calling on the Prime Minister to resign.”

The House is scheduled to reconvene Jan. 27, a week after Donald Trump returns to the White House. There is growing fear that chaos in Ottawa is impeding Canada’s readiness for the tariff war the president-elect has threatened to start on his first day back.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has made an unorthodox appeal that Parliament reconvene before the end of the year for a no-confidence vote that would topple Trudeau’s minority government.

“The Prime Minister continues to cling desperately to power,” Poilievre wrote Friday in a letter to Canada’s governor general, who is not likely to grant the request. “That would be wrong at any time, but these are not normal times. Canada faces a serious and potentially crippling trade threat from the United States.”

CBC News and the Toronto Star report that 51 members of the Ontario caucus gathered virtually on Saturday agreed to tell the prime minister they want him gone.

The dissenters have been emboldened by the abrupt and surprise exit of Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland on Dec. 16 — a staggering departure interpreted by many as the beginning of the end for her boss.

Wayne Gretzky is a huge Trump supporter and is being recruited to replace Trudeau.

President-elect Trump floated Wayne Gretzky as the prime minister of Canada on Wednesday, and it appeared the hockey legend's wife was watching as she shared the post on her own social media.

Tough choice. I'd be fine with either as Canada has become a national security risk to America. Whomever is in charge can hopefully approve a USA military base in Canada for security reasons.

Hahahahaha. A pussy conservative leader might actually do that because generally conservatives have very little spine.

I don't understand. The USA has military bases around the world, including the UK, Japan, S. Korea.

Why are you calling those leader a pussy?

For the same reason that many of our allies have one. Security. Canada can't protect itself from the enemy and it just makes sense.

During the 1990s there were approximately 100 US bases in the UK. 13 remain today: RAF Lakenheath, RAF Croughton, RAF Welford, RAF Fairford, RAF Feltwell, RAF Upwood, RAF Barford St John, RAF Blenheim Crescent, RAF Fylingdales, RAF Menwith Hill, RAF Mildenhall, RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth.

At the moment it difficult to discern where exactly the enemy is. Maybe in four years it will be easier to figure out.

This is why Americans don't believe Canadians when you say that Canada is our friend. Canada is putting both the USA and Canada at risk by not allowing our military base in your country. You want our protection but no our bases.
