    Voting Rights Question

I watched an interesting debate recently and want to pose this question:

Who had the hardest struggle for the right to vote, women or men? Please explain.

      Re: Voting Rights Question

I honestly don't understand where this world goes.
Since when we have different rights to vote?
Seems ridiculous question to debate that in 21 century.

Play along for a second and I think I can change your mind.

When did men gain the right to vote? What year? Just give me a ballpark time.

Good answer. But lets discuss it. When did men gain the right to vote?

Like I said, I watched a debate the other day. It was Jordan Peterson and some other dude. Anyway, I thought it was thought-provoking.

Think about it for a minute. Have men always been able to vote? Or was there a struggle? Did men have to overcome oppression to vote? Think about it. Get back with me??!!

Perfect question, slim. I'm talking about this country. What had to happen in order for men to vote in this country? Was there a struggle?

I can't speak for your country Billy. I feel incompetent in American politics but my answer won't change.
We are equally important to God why politics or anything can change this is beyond me.

You're certainly right. We are equally important to God. And that's what our constitution is all about. I think it's important that we know how we got here.

For most of history there were no voting rights. Not in any country? Where did it start and how did we get there?

                      Re: Voting Rights Question

I've had some recent reading on women's sufferage.

Even though women gained the right to vote 1920 with the 19th amendment to the US constitution, their right was very hard to enforce, it was re-iterated in the voting rights act of 1965. Many southern states continued to deny women and persons of color the vote using poll taxes, intelligence tests, literacy tests, and Jim Crow laws. Additionally southern whites continued to bypass these obstructions to voting by being "of good moral character", or having a relative that had voted.

Even though these federal laws were passed in 1920 and 1965 respectively, individual states took much much longer to acknowledge them. The last of these states to finally acknowledge suffrage rights was Mississippi in 1987.

Do you want to read more? I can attach.

                      Yes ... 1987. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

All true. This is all very good stuff.

So, my original question had to do with a debate I watched online that involved Jordan Peterson. He went on to ask this question: Did more men or women die trying to gain the right to vote?

Women certainly had to work a lot harder to gain their right to vote. Voting rights initially were possessed only by property owners. Women and persons of color have only gained the rights to own property in the last 120 years.

I suppose that it depends how broadly you're going to think about it. The Revolutionary War was, in a way, granting individual North Americans the right to vote, and certainly the majority of those soldiers were men. That is not to diminish in any way the struggles of women's suffrage. =^..^=

                            Bingo.

Peterson went back to the Revolutionary War. He wasn't trying to take away from what women endured in the pursuit of equal rights. However, he was debating with a hardcore feminist who, IMHO, deminished the struggle that men endured. We never hear the other side of it. It's common knowledge but I sometimes wonder how many kids know history.

I was gonna post the video of the Peterson debate that I watched the other day and I can't find it to save my life. I found others but not that one. A lot of people don't like Jordan Peterson but I find his vantage point interesting. He seems like a very smart man to me. That's not to say that he's always right.
