Cleaning Hot Rollers

Although i will always change a Hot roller rather than patch it up. Sometimes you need to clean off the toner bulid up on a roller.

What do people on here recomend?

The solution we got from Ricoh we have been told we are unable to buy anymore. It smelt awful but cleaned up the roller beautifully.

I use solvent cleaner, elbow grease and a gas mask, that normally does the trick, although like you say, i normally replace them if they have thermistor grooves in them.

Silicon oil works pretty good.

is something not working right if you get buildup on a fuser roller?? maybe the web or cleaning roller needs work?? i've never seen it happen.I usually get rings or scratches and i just replace the thing.

I ve seen this on some of the legacy ricoh's. Due to roller manufacture or supply problems, from ricoh no less. Once in a while there's a cleaning problem. That HR cleaner has been long gone as far as I know. Didn't think much of it anyway.New roller works best.

Eucalyptus Oil and a bit of a rub should clean it up but i don't know if it is readily avaliable overseas.

you can scrub them with an old wad of cleaning web but once they get big chunks them you are probably better off replacing them.

You can patch a scatched hot roller as a temporary fix with a thin rap around of teflon tape.
It does not look pretty as teflon tape is normally white but it works.

Personal I never bother cleaning or patching any hot roller.

The way I see it is it's either time to replace it or just leave it run.
It's more important imo to tackle the cleaning rollers, oil supply rollers, cleaning webs, contact thermistors
and stripper pawls as these ultimately have a direct impact on the long term condition of a hot roller.

Fix the root cause, not the symptom basically.

I remeber that unique aroma well. Thank God its gone. That was some powerful juice and would melt plastic. It was $40 a gallon way back then, and wouldnt surpise me if that wasnt the main Ingredient of crystal meth. It was like tear gas on steroids.
