You guys ever have really WEIRD days or weeks where the exact same fault happens several times in a row? I mean on different models of different age and environment. For instance having 6 calls in one day with ADF misfeeds and they all had broken torque limiters. Or not having to replace a PCB on any machine for a year and then have 3 or 4 PCB failures in a week on different models. Or having someone pull out in front of you 4 or 5 times in one day. I understand some of this could just be coincidence, but I have been doing this for more than 20 years and have seen this strange stuff happen more than once. I can't explain it.

Holy Crap!!! I though this just happened to me!
See some weird issue come up, then see it again several times in next week or two. Could be as simple as a fuser roller on an oddball model, then see several more. Or run into the exact same printing issue a few times in one week.Comment

Personally, I always thought that the multiple occurrences was more about the idea being fresh in my mind, thusly, more likely to be seen since that is what I was thinking about.
But what do I know? =^..^=If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

You're experiencing the Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon.โAnti-intellectualism has been a constant thread winding its way through our political and cultural life, nurtured by the false notion that democracy means that 'my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge.'โ (Isaac Asimov)Comment

I have learned to be careful about jeering, joking or poking fun at other people. Because it will come back to haunt you. I can remember even saying to myself a couple of times when reading a techs post here at CTN, God I'm glad I'm not the one having to fix that machine. Only to have another tech walk in and bring a machine doing the same thing and everyone looking to me to fix it. I've gotten to the point I don't even think stuff like that anymore.Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".Comment

I always see several of the same faults in a row after saying to another engineer - "jesus, I have not seen that happen for years"
Last week was saying " have not fitted a IRC3380 dev clutch in a long while" , then got 4 in one week.Yes, I am a nerd.

Several years ago while a tech for Ikon, I had to replace a cam gear on three Canon machines in one week. Model had been out for a couple years and had never had to replace this cam gear before nor ever again. Funnier still is that I got auto-restocked with 27 of these! Tried to turn them back in but was refused because of the usage. A year later my FSM asked me why I was carrying 27 of them! Ahhh - the swirling torrent of pain and misery of having been an Ikon tech!Comment

Sometimes it can make you look sharp. I was having a sorter issue that I had never had before. A junior tech told me how to fix it after I struggled for a while. Three days later, had the same problem. This customer was impressed with how quick I zeroed in and fix ed it.The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. row boat.jpgAt my company, we never mention in conversation a customer by name. You might say "a customer in Shrewsbury", but you would never say "TFK Enterprises". To mention thier names was just asking to go back there. I am not supersticious, but why rock the boat ?Kevin900Comment

Happens to me too, sometimes after fixing some weird problem, the same problem shows up on a different model.
As soon as you start bragging about that great fix at XYZ company, the call comes back,
or just driving by, and thinking that they have not called, so that magic fix worked, and BINGO, the call shows up soon after.Comment
