Having is not as good as wanting. It is not logical, but usually true.
Why do they call it common sense?

If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

You don`t have to help anyone if you don`t want to, no one`s holding a gun to your head.
But don`t be a hypocrite by saying you would like to help people and then turn around and
criticize the very people who ask for your help.

Most of the people who ask for stuff here don`t speak our language well,
they might not be internet savvy like us, does that give us the right to judge them.

By the way anyone here would like to have the latest Canon SST, send me your email address.

I think Jason Lee said it best when he said "That's what the internet is for, slandering others anonymously".

If you're not using your internet connection to talk shit or look at porn, then why have it at all?
But I'm trying, Ringo. I'm trying real hard... to be the Shepherd.

I can be a hypocrite all I like, because this is RANTS, RAVES AND EVERYTHING ELSE!!!

For someone to ask a question, they are easy to help out. When people start asking for access to secure technical site, service manuals and firmware, that is a completely different scenario in my book. While some members like to give out those things, which is entirely their decision, I don't.

This is especially the case when you get first time posters saying I WANT, I WANT, I WANT!!! What have they contributed to the site? What background do they have to qualify them to know how to install firmware correctly? Do they work in our industry and if they don't, then why are they here taking away from people that are trying to making a living from snorting toner and putting up with customers bullshit?
Please don't ask me for firmware or service manuals as refusal often offends.

I did forget to add something to this, so here goes again...

My company spends thousands of dollars ever year on training our technicians so that we can have access to service manuals, firmware and support from our manufacturers. I'm sure alot of other people on here also in that same boat.

Now if you really want to think about it, we are stealing from ourselves and our companies by giving advise, service manuals and firmware out for nothing.

Putting that into a different context: I recently renovated my bathroom and did most of the work myself, but I did how ever need a plumber to come in and fit off the new taps. What do you think the plumber would have said if I rang him up and asked him how to do everything over the phone so I didn't need to pay for him to come out? My bets are on "Fuck off and stop wasting my time".

Aside from the posts from users, what do you think the odds are that almost every one of the "I want..." posters are charging their customers for the information, software, and firmware that they want for free?

                      Re: I WANT, I WANT, I WANT!!!!

There is probably a strong chance of that.

We have seen a few "I don't normally work on these machines" quotes and I have often wondered if they had been asked by a customer if they could fix a problem on another machine.

At the end of the day, if I don't know the product enough, then I suggest a customer goes to the dealer for support. If I have to spend half an hour trying to find the information, half an hour reading so I look like I know what I am doing and then an hour on site, then I have lost an hours work without being able to attach a price to it.

I am getting tired of local customers wanting free phone support.
They don't have a contract, only call when the machine is trashed, their IT DAHR is getting paid for his time but WANTS free help, and won't pay for me to come out and resolve the problem in less than an hour.
Talk about "I want, I want"

                          Re: I WANT, I WANT, I WANT!!!!

I have no problem with helping those who contribute to this site, because I believe this site is all about sharing information and help. Those who always say I want and don't contribute, should not be encouraged. In some cases I have requested the person wanting to PM me and asked if they would be willing to trade some particular information in return. Most cases I never hear from them again. For those that do, I have provided information and in some cases continue to do so without asking for anything else.

Now, back to world peace. I have very little in common with the pagent ladies. I am a girl and I want world peace. Those are probably the only things we have in common. I like girl stuff and guy stuff, which I think is a plus. I have just as many guy friends as girl friends and don't understand why I am supposed to be in one category or the other. I used to be mistaken for the person in the attached photo (when I was younger), but after years of eating at fast food joints on the road between calls, breathing toner dust, picking up machines that I should have had help with, working in a machine on my knees and breaking nails in machines, I don't look or feel quite the same as I used to. But I still want world peace, guys.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Coke in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!".
