    Re: Gun Control

Several people on this topic claim to have concealed gun permits. I was wondering when you have to travel to a different state or county where that permit is no longer legal, do you comply and disarm? How does that make you feel about your personal safety?

Detroit-Area School Suicide Highlights Gun Control Debate

Tragedy struck at a metro Detroit school in late March. ABC Action News 7 WXYZ reports that a eighth-grade boy brought a handgun to Davidson Middle School in Southgate, Michigan, and shot himself in the school bathroom. Tyler Nichols was 13. According to The Oakland Press, the eighth grader used a .40-caliber Glock handgun to shoot himself once in the head on Thursday, March 21.

Police reported that the gun used was owned by a family member of Nichols, and city Public Safety Director Thomas Coombs said at a press conference that it was legally registered but not properly secured.

Families with guns are 22x as likely to suffer a gun related tragedy to a family member than from a criminal attacker.
It's a shame that those kid's parents and the community at large didn't teach them how to handle firearms in a responsible manner. But oh, well, too late now.

Connecticut lawmakers agree on tough gun control bill

Connecticut lawmakers agree on tough gun control bill - CBS News

Connecticut lawmakers announced a deal Monday on what they called some of the toughest gun laws in the country that were proposed after the December mass shooting in the state, including a ban on new high-capacity ammunition magazines like the ones used in the massacre that left 20 children and six educators dead.

The proposal also called for background checks for private gun sales and a new registry for existing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets, something of a compromise for parents of Newtown victims who had wanted an outright ban on them, while legislators had proposed grandfathering them into the law.

The package also creates what lawmakers said is the nation's first statewide dangerous weapon offender registry, immediate universal background checks for all firearms sales and expansion of Connecticut's assault weapons ban.

A new state-issued eligibility certificate would also be needed to purchase any rifle, shotgun or ammunition under the legislation. To get the certificate, a buyer would need to be fingerprinted, take a firearms training course and undergo a national criminal background check and involuntary commitment or voluntary admission check.

The deal is "the most comprehensive package in the country because of its breadth," said Senate Minority Leader John McKinney, a Fairfield Republican whose district includes Newtown.

A vote was expected Wednesday in the Legislature, where Democrats control both chambers, making passage all but assured. The bill would then be sent to Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, who has helped lead efforts to strengthen the state's gun laws.

Good Guns... Sit! Lay down! Roll Over!

People on the other hand ARE the problem. Criminals specifically, and no amount of laws make any difference to them.

Deal with the criminals, not the guns.

No car is designed to kill people. SCM 1216 shot guns are designed to kill people in combat situations.

So like saleserviceguy says, don't tell me gun control doesn't work. The numbers prove it.

The big lie is who gun control works for.

I think this post is meant to be sarcastic.

None of the examples above apply to the modern American experience as they are all from 40 to 100 years ago and use dictator states as examples. The USA is not a dictatorship and due to the internet, freely and instantly allows information to flow. The idea that the US Gov't is somehow going to turn upon its citizens anytime in the near future is paranoid fantasy who's primary purpose is to sell more guns.

Gun control in the USA is not about taking away anyone's guns. It is about making smart social policy to help reduce the 30,500 Americans who die per year as a result of a gun shot wounds, be it homicide or suicide.

I recently watched a video of six police captains debating gun control. One said that police officers are trained to wait for that moment, maybe one or two seconds, when a gun man has to change his clip. In that one or two seconds, police will seize the opportunity to return fire. I am sure most police officers would prefer to see smaller ammo clips available for sale to the general population.

    I understand Darin

What is the point of outlawing 30 round clips if it won't make any deference on crime.?

And my other comment had to do with people that should be in jail being let out causing the problems in our society.

Crime is caused by criminals not law abiding people.

And the mass shootings are from people that needed to be in a mental hospital.

Well hope you have a good day.

He got of just about as many shots in the same amount of time. maybe 5 seconds between the first 30 round clip than the other 3- 10 rounds clips. I know what you are saying. You think it will cut down on killing. But it will not.

I really don't think it will make a bit of deference one way or the other.

They just let out of jail a sex offender in our state last week. Judge didn't even set bail. Just let him out. Within 6 days he raped a young 18 years old girl. Why the hell didn't they keep the guy in jail. The judge that let him go said he made a MISTAKE. Tell that to the young girl that was raped. SO if we arn't so easy on the crazy , sick crimanals there would be a lot less crime.

Gun control is not about the gun. It's about the control.
Thanks for making my point for me Mr Bill. If it was very close with the smaller clips then why are the ridiculously large ones neccessary? Very well put.
I'm not sure what your other comment has to do with this discission so I will leave it alone.

Hmmmm. Amazing stats. But who is going to be defenseless? Who has said they are going to take away your guns? Where is that stat? All that will happen is it will be a little more difficult to obtain a gun. A bad thing? No. And who really needs a magazine that holds 30 cartridges? No big loss either.
So, keep your guns if they make you feel safe.
