    Have you ever

Have you ever had one of those weeks, when there has been nothing wrong with the m/c's you're fixing, but outside factors

Had a Biz C220 this week, the customer complained that it "was slowing down & had stopped completely"...on arrival i discovered that they couldn't print or scan, i asked if this was the only printer they were having problems with, they said yes, so after checking various things, i told them i could definately say it was the copier at fault, so they phoned their IT,as they were on the phone to him, someone else discovered another printer wasn't working,...... after checking behind the copier, i discovered that someone had unplugged the network switch

i've had 2 different customers that were complaining that their m/c's were faxing intermittently, both times, more than one person had problems, both times the people in each company were trying to fax the same number, guess what...it was the faxes at the other end not working

Had another customer whose finisher was intermittently stapling, after investigation, it was only happening from one PC... the operator didn't know how to do it properly

Finally i had a franking m/c that the customer couldn't download funds on to, after talking them through trouble shooting on the phone, including telling them to plug it into their fax line & try it, i had to go round....& discovered it shared their fax line, which they failed to tell me & it was a faulty line...

at least it makes a change from cleaning optics & changing rollers
Tip for the day; Treat every problem as your dog would.....If you cant eat it or f*ck it....then p*ss on it & walk away...

Had that happen several times. It's very frustrating... Worse yet when you know it's a problem that can be resolved over the phone, but the customer or other staff members in the office refuse to actually do anything. Their tune certainly changed when they got the $7xx bill for wasting 5 hours of driving time and a needless call out.

Yes sir, no sir, yes sir, right away sir.
Cthulhu for president! Why settle for the lesser evil?

      Re: Have you ever

I solved two perpetual recalls for "black lines" on CS-2560's, neither of which would present a problem when I was there.

The first "black lines" was intermittent black cloudy background with black rain spots. Black lines? Easy fix once I saw a sample: arcing primary charge contact. Seen it many times.

The second "black lines" was a faint gray streak the would become slightly visible after 25 consecutive pages, almost like a heat roller sans teflon at the claws. Again I got lucky with a sample page. It was obviously poor drum cleaning. From within the drum cleaning unit I fished out a roughly 50mm x 50mm square of paper, cleaned off a bunch of label adhesive, then re-primed the blade. Drum Refresh to remove any residual paraffin lamp oil. I suppose I can see a description for "black lines" here.

I'm just glad to finally see a fixable problem. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

When the customer is too lazy or inept to help themselves, I say charge, charge like a wounded bull.
It soon helps them realise that it saves them a heap of money if they try and help themselves...

I've got customers with 24x7 coverage. Calls between 5pm-6am are billable portal to portal. When the bean counters get a bill for some horseshit that the machine operator could have fixed (ie: clearing a paper jam) the operators all of a sudden get with the program.
