Re: Your fat sugary ass!
I'm fat, bald, and ugly.
Deal with it.
I Don't Blame something that came out of a bottle, and I don't think anything in a different bottle will improve matters. It's really none of your business, and it sure as hell ain't the government's business.

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
People who eat fast food on a regular basis have already decided they don't really care about their health. As an adult when I decide that I need to lose weight, I should eat better. My sugar intake comes from coffee and tea. I walk through a food court twice a day on my way to get my coffee refilled and resist the temptation every day. If being overweight cost the system money, then insurance rates should be based on body weight. The short fat person who holds the title of service manager where I work, complains about his feet and knees hurting all the time, yet he looks like he is 9 months pregnant and gets fast food for lunch everyday. I try to keep my waist size smaller than my chest and rarely eat during the day. He has insurance that I cannot afford. It still comes down to freedom of choice. I choose not to be fat and therefore must use restraint when deciding what I will eat.
In the past I have quit smoking and lost a lot of weight one year. I felt better from loosing the weight. It is your right to be big and fat, but it is also the right of companies and other places to make up for added cost of fat people. Maybe they should sell insurance by the pound. If there is data that shows overweight people cost a company more money than healthy ones, they should be allowed to consider that when hiring someone. Just because you have a right to be fat, does not mean that others should have to pick up the tab.Last edited by fixthecopier; 03-14-2013, 12:24 PM.The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Re: Your fat sugary ass!
Overall I find this is a very interesting public health issue that involves a lot of things over a very simple topic. State funded healthcare, capitalism, political power, the judicial system, personal rights, special interest groups, obesity, proper diet and more.
An earlier thread had a useful link to the bad health effects of diet soda that has made me re think my consumption of that beverage. I read that the average American drinks two cans of soda per day.
People get so worked up over the inconvenience of ordering two 16 oz glasses of coke vs one 32 oz bottle. No wonder the USA is in such political grid lock.
I read elsewhere that "America is killing itself ...sweetly."Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
Well, the judges seem to think you can't ban it. This is common sense. Why is it that political people don't have common sense? The problem is not the product. Its the human thinking. Take this as an example. I'm a smoker. I know what your thinking, STOP. Working on it. When I started smoking, I had no immediate consequence from it. Therefore I continued. Thats the problem, ME. So, the goverment thinks I cannot think for myself and then says they nedd to ban smoking. Banning smoking will not solve the problem. The only person who can solve this is ME!! Another knee jerk reaction by goverment.Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
I've read through this thread while smoking a cigarette.
The government should not be in the healthcare business. If I get cancer or have a heart attack, I feel other taxpayers should not be on the hook for my care. Same thing goes for jackasses that ride motorcycles without helmets......I don't think I should have to pay for someone to change your diaper or feed you thru a straw because you wrecked. The list is endless of poor decisions.
If I want to be told how to live or what to do, I would still be living at home with mom and dad. As long as I'm living on my own and paying my own freight 100%, I don't need govco or some socialist handout nutjob telling me how I should live.
If I on my own free will help somebody buy a new kidney, that is a kind and noble thing. But when government reaches into my pocket to take money from me to help you get the kidney, that is THEFT!
If I get a terminal illness, or have been in a fucked up accident and there is no hope...... Just let me go on to be with my Lord Savior Jesus Christ. Don't go bankrupt on my account, because you can't let go.
Life sucks, but my faith gets me through.Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
In an earlier thread nmfaxman accused me of
"What do you care about NY anyway? You don't like it, stay home"
His avatar suggests that he new is from New Mexico. Physically, he is much farther away from NY City than I am.
This whole topic is about NY City municipal politics. Not state nor federal politics.
The outcome of this blog will likely never effect him or most of the respondents to this topic. So what does he care about this topic?
He and many people choose to propose that somehow their freedom of rights is being reduced and champion an unrestricted freedom of liberties regardless of the real cost of runaway healthcare costs to the city.
No civil rights are being reduced here. Maybe only inconvenienced that you might have to get off your fat ass twice to buy a 16 oz cola when you can chug one 32 oz cola for pennies less at one time.
NY City and the Harvard School of Medicine says that high sugar soft drinks are a major cause of obesity and diabetes in the USA's largest city among adults and adolescents. What more reference material do you need?
I would remind you that this blog is on a minor website for copier techs under the Rant and Rave section whose primary purpose is for entertainment.
This blog is a fascinating topic for any university political science student.Comment

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
Sir, the crime you committed was not being from around here. I have noticed that people in America who would regard places like New York and Detroit as foreign countries, get upset when someone from another country criticizes "Our Freedoms". In the argument over cola size, no one seems concerned about the real loss of real freedoms. Either the bias news source you use doesn't report it or nobody cares.

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
The ban is in NYC yes...and it's a local issue...for now...but the soda ban isn't the first thing Bloomberg has banned or forced control on....and won't be the last...he pushes and pushes a little here and there...he's testing the waters so to say...start little and expand....before you know it I might not be allowed to have a steak here in Texas...first and foremost that is un-Texan....secondly it's un-American..."In a cruel and evil world, being cynical can allow you to get some entertainment out of it."

Re: Your fat sugary ass!
Well, I'm probably the kind of person that thinks that government regulation is usually a good thing (see my stance at the weapons ban threads - not trying to bring that issue over here, just making a point). But I think that when government tries to regulate the ammount of drink inside my cup, they might as well start to look over how much shit I crap everyday and start taxing me accordingly better not, lest they read this and think it is a good idea. It's just that silly!' "But the salesman said . . ." The salesman's an asshole!'

Huh, guess SalesServiceGuy is in sales mode. Oh well, I probably would have starved to death if I had to base my income on sales stuff only, so if SalesServiceGuy is worth a crap as a salesperson I'll cut him some slack even if his views on how the world works are overly dramatic. After all, if you watch the news, drama sells.Comment

Have you ever seen the food they sell on the streets of New York. It is not the sugar in drinks making people fat. You never see a cart selling salads. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Stephen HawkingComment

I had a few too many beers, late at night, when I made that last post!
Just like drinking and driving is dangerous so is drinking and posting!
I guess we will have to wait and see the outcome of Bloomberg's appeal. And yes, drama sells. You are reading this post aren't you!Comment
