If you haven't checked in with the Decorah Eagles yet, this is the most exciting time for the eaglets.

They're full sized adults now, and overdue for their first flight. The nest is looking a bit crowded when everyone is home.

The largest adult is Priscillah (momma). The smaller adult is Mochamommah (daddy). and of course the chicks D18, D19, and D20.

I can't imagine that they'll be around the nest much longer. The eaglets are hopping about, and trying their wings. Most of the fluff is gone on the older D18 and D19, and I expect that they'll be flying soon. Even the younger D20 is starting to loose fluff and get some black feathers.

If anybody has been following the Decorah Eagles, D18, D19, and D20 have hatched about 10 days ago. the chicks are particularly active right now.

Pay special attention to the smallest eaglet. It's the got the biggest appetite, snapping up 8 of 10 pieces of meat. =^..^=

I had to see one of these kitehawks. Looks like the same family as eagles, falcons, and vultures. 6' wingspan for an adult.

There's a couple of places around here that have set up cameras focused on the nests of bald eagles. In case you want to check them out, here you go:

I thought they were interesting, although fair warning the action is kind of slow.
On a somewhat related note, a bald eagle flew in front of my car today and scared the crap out of me. Eagles are huge birds.

Talk about Eagles and vehicles.
Just recently we had to rescue a damsel in distress(okay my wife) from the inlaws place out west.
There is a lot of road kill on the side of the road from Semi-trailer drivers who drive during the cool of night.
I happend to be in a vehicle doing an excess speed(double limit) along isolated highway, when we broached a corner
with fresh road kill in the middle of the road. There was about 30 or so Kitehawks feeding off the dead kangaroo carcass. I think that was the clearest closest view of a Kitehawks rectum I ever saw. He clipped the top of the passenger side windscreen. He lived to tell the tale. I saw him flying away. I bet he told all his hawk mates "those humans are literally a pain-in-the-@ss."
Kitehawks are a large bird. Thier wingspan covers across the windscreen of a vehicle.

We still have some Bald Eagles down here on the Tenn-Tom Waterway.
It has been a while since I have gone to some of these protected areas to see them.
( Now you have made me want to take my grandsons, and go watch some of them . )

They are quite majestic and are interesting to watch.
We have seen them fishing and breaking branches from dead trees to build their nests.

Thanks for sharing. I've heard of projects like this in Michigan, where they set up nesting locations for Peregrine Falcons.

I get cold just listening to the wind high in the trees. =^..^=

I absolutely love the photographic postcard scenery.
It's definitely a change from the 45 degC dry desert heat wave
I use to see and feel when I lived out in the central-west country.
