    Re: Speaking of Price Increases.........

hi paul.your price increase should not be a problem .it goes back to, fix the machine with no manual = lots of hours fumbling then buy manual .
or buy manual and know what your doing right away =hours saved.
at a minimum of $80 dollars an hour buy one manual and save, for instance 2 hours of fumbling .that works out at 2 hours= $160.wasted.
the cost of the manual can be booked as 15 minutes labour = machine fixed customer happy ,im happy

      Re: Speaking of Price Increases.........

I've suggested this to several techs that claimed "I can't afford to buy a manual."

You can't afford not to buy a manual. If that $12.77 knocks all the profit out of your service call, you're not charging enough. A simple solution is attach a $5.00 manual surcharge on any billable call. After 2 1/2 calls you're even, then you can profit a little.

It's a tool for Christ sake! Are you going to complain that you can't change your tire because you can't afford a lug wrench? It's just idiotic, illogical thinking. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Think of buying a manual as being like buying a part. Are you not going to get the parts a machine needs ust because you don't want to have pay for them?

          Yeah, what everyone else said.
I know I should be ashamed of myself. Strangely though, I am not.

Actually that has been true for some techs. It's sad. =^..^=

Have not needed to buy a manual in a long time. And even when I do have a manual I might spend a hour on a problem and then when I still dont have the solution with get out the manual and , OH theres the fix. I sould have got the manual out first. DUH. A couple of bucks increase will not stop me from buying a manual if I want to fix a machine and make a couple hundred $$$. No freaking brainer there. Don't worry about Paul.

I just don't understand those cheap asses that won't spend money on tools to do a job right. I for one have spent hundreds if not thousands over my life to buy that special tool for that 1 time job, whether it's a copier or a house or a vehical. Sometimes you just have to have the right tool for the job, pony up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You also have the flip side of the "age of the manual" debate. The older more rare a vehicle/copier/baby's rattle becomes the more valuable the manual becomes... I'm not certain this would apply in Pauls business though....

True, but the most important to Paul, the older the machine, the more likely it is that someone will already have it.
