I'm the last person to defend the Japanese Economics, however, i've been fixing plastic Japanese Copiers for the last 30 years. Much easier than fixing metal American Copiers for the first 15 years. (maybe you weren't around for those dogs).

Also, what would the teeming millions of dirt-poor Asians do if they weren't working at slave labor? Probably squatting around a campfire in their living room eating bugs.

What I really don't like about the Japanese way is that we send them ALL of the money and then they send back our share.
I know what I know better than anyone else knows what I know.

        Ricoh Aficio 1224/1232

I'm glad that we finally have just a few left in the field (still working on getting rid of them..) but I will never forget this piece of crap.

This was the most important service tool:

Yes, I think technician induced damage is great, but what about some "Mythbusters style" explosions? All that dev and toner everywhere! Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha (said with evil voice!).
I did blow out a full dev unit from an iR2200 with an air hose once, a nice expanding toner cloud all over the managing sales director's BMW.

Unfortunatly the service director wouldn't let me light it to see if we could make it into a fire ball.

            Sharp SF-900

I've been at it since 1978 starting on the Olivetti Copia 1500
(Sharp SF 720 series) and the Wet Canons. We are a Konica Minolta dealer and I think the Di-2510/BH250 are pretty
amazing (once the toner drive and pf clutch were updated).
            The
Sharp SF-900 was the most amazing piece of crap ever
made maybe seconded by the SD-2075.

I totally hated the Sharp sf-9800 and the sf-7750. I started on those and things copiers have gotten soo much better since then. Also most companies first attempts at business color were a disaster also( Ricoh 1223 and Canon 3100)

Kinda suprises me how no-one's mentioned the MP4000/5000 yet, or they have and I'm not awake enough to notice.

I think it's safe to say I've never met a machine that is this much of an arsehole straight out of the box. Definite contender for the biggest piece of stinky shite ever.
It's 106 miles to Chicago. We've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

                Hit it.

Ricoh made the 1224/1232 up as far as the "3" series, i.e. 3224/3234 they said they had ironed out all the faults with it, including the clutch/drive issue, but they are so wrong, I thought they would have abandoned it, but it got re-released!.

I think the Ricoh 6513 was one of the worst colour machines imho.

Early digital sharps were a bit crap, the ones that behaved like an analogue machine by scanning a page as it copies.

Really don't like toshiba kit, especially the e-studio 16 and such, toshiba have the worst service menus.

Ricoh Bellini's have there fare share of annoying faults, SC495's, SC301's. only put in B0709510 drum in these, B2959510 can give odd problems with marks on the first few 1000 copies.

Sharp 155/150 etc, crap fuser drive system.

                  Ricoh Adonis are filthy machines.

Ricoh martini dev seals going and destroying feed units!

Most any Sharp that starts with SF 7***, except the old 7300 series, they were pretty decent machines, the 7800's and 7700's them were dogs.
I read somebody wanted to have a copier smash up session, rather see David Letterman toss some off a building, see how many peices they wind up in, or take some to a miltary base and let them us some old ones for target pratice.

How about the rotating tray in the Sharp sf-7800 series the worst idea ever. But my least favorite things that I still see ocasionally are the Sharp sf-2116 B&W and the BC260 for color, the only good color quality that damn thing can produce is the blue letters for a link. My boss sold one used to his friend last month, guessing they won't be friends anymore by this time next year. I also hate the Canon ir2200 pf lift unit, horriable design, nothing like making something that should be simple incrediabilly dificult. AAAHHHHHHHHH feels good to vent.

BC260, is that anything like the AR-C172?, with the duplex draw, and toner cartridges that get contaminated with paper dust?

                            Ricoh POS

The Ricoh line in general. Stopped up toner systems and toner blowing through out the machines. Moving toner with rubber hoses! Who thought up that poor design. The worst machines ever made. The only fix for a Ricoh is to replace it with a Canon.

                              No......,no,no.....

                              Don't replace Ricoh with Canon.

Replace it with Kyocera. In particular machines since the Falcon series have monocomponent toner. I rarely clean toner out of these machines. It's a paper dust.

I am trained on the high speed Ricoh's of the 85-90-105 variety and fought all manner of fun stuff with those rubber hoses. You don't do it just right, you do it all over again. You didn't even mention the big long coil that transports toner fropm one corner up to the developer which if it twists brings about all that other stuff. Plus scraping out the mag roller grooves.

                              Don't miss em at all.

They finally fixed that in the Pro Ex series. Mag roller groves are still a problem, but I started using a brass brush a while back and it makes quick work of it.

AF1224 gets my vote for biggest POS. The MP4000 is on its way to the top of the list if Ricoh doesn't admit they have a problem with the toner and actually fix it.
