Nobody charges for scans yet, but go ahead and do it first so the rest of us can start charging for scans too. I just hate it when a customer only has like 10 clicks on the copier but has over 400,000 clicks on the scanner!

We charge for scans when scans exceed 33% of the total print count. And it's only 1/3 of a click for those scans over 33% =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I can't imagine anyone would agree to a charge per scan type of contract when they can just spend the money on a flatbed scanner with a Document Feeder one time. It's not like these things require much maintenance. What, replace the rollers every couple of months as your worst case scenario? I don't know, there are some incredibly stupid people out there. People with the kind of stupidity that defies all logic and reason...

I believe ours is .00025 per scan. I think it works out to $250 for 100k scanned pages. Having said that, we're re-evaluating it right now because the manufacturers are so inconsistent even across the same brand, it's hard to get accurate counts & it's not worth pissing customers off. We do have a customer using KyoCapture that has 26k prints & 305k scans. It uses parts & generates service calls so you need to bill for it somehow.
          Hope that helps !

Similar situation. We've got a VoyagerE that has done 100K prints and 400K scans. They've gone through three op panels, as a result of custom naming each scan file. =^..^=

Charging for scans is no doubt a hot topic.

Some savvy customers have already figured that out on their own. They run near zero prints and copies, but the scanner goes non-stop.

We have a Canon iR8500 at a hospital that only had a few 100k on it when it was decided that they didn't need it anymore. The genius salesrep hung an eCopy unit on it, now they scan nearly continuously 8 hours a day.

The end result? A tech who is rebuiding the feeder monthly, while we get squat for service revenue.

We have charged for scans for years, the MFP's are far more flexible for scanning than flatbeds with e-mail and folder, walk up scan and go, scans automatically imported into EDM systems etc.
We have had machines with far more scans on than copies and prints, with hardly enough revenue to change the worn feed rollers, clutches etc in the DF, even had boards go in the df's, if you don't charge for scans on a heavily scan use MFP, you could be out of pocket. We don't charge a lot, about a third of a normal click
