    Ricoh MPc3502 scan to email

Can someone please tell me the settings to setup scan to email using Gmails SMTP server. I always let the IT guy do it and have never really wanted to know. I searched through the forum and got plenty of information but it seems foreign to me. Please put it in simple terms. Thanks

Very simple, every setting you need is in user tools, file transfer tab

Going from memory here's all the settings you need (assuming you have set the network settings, IP address, gateway address etc, DNS must be 8.8.8.8)

      SMTP address=smtp.gamil.com

      User authentication ON

Auth info= your gmail email address & password

Use SSL on (will set the port to 465)

      Administrator email can be anything

Page 2/3 must set "auto specify sender name to ON"

Set it exactly as described and keep getting authentication errors.

            Email Server: <smtp.googlemail.com>
            Security <ssl/tls>
            port <465>
            Authentication method using <password normal>
            User name : <A Citizen>

You might need to generate a SSL certificate if you are using SSL.

You might like to get the MFD going using port 25 no security first off,
then switch over to SSL port 465, 578, 995 for return email "pop" or "mapi" protocols.

I'm afraid there is no easy path for you to learn IT. It is a case of get in and learn how to set up email settings.

It's time to say "SELF" --I have to learn how to do this. And "SELF" might reply with "oh! it's not that hard now I've learnt it..."

Once I export the cert. do I need to run or install it? How does installing this cert on my computer help with the MFP authenticating with the server?

The certificate is already installed in your browser. the instructions tell you how to copy the certificate from your browser and then copy it to the MFP. I guess I forgot to copy the text from the second page that said how to export in to the MFP.
                  1. Open WIM and login as the administrator
                  2. Click Configuration.
                  3. In the Security section click Site Certificate
                  4. If there already is a certificate listed, check the expire date. If it has expired delete it. If it is still good then the machine has a valid site certificate.
                  5. If you need to install a certificate, click Browse, navigate to and select the certificate you exported from the browser.
                  6. Click import
                  7. Check the expire date of the imported certificate. Until I updated to Windows 10, the certificates I exported had all expired.

NOW I am unable to log into the WIM, says the cert is weak, whatever that means.

Sounds like you installed the certificate as a device certificate instead of the site certificate.

This is exactly what I did myself a while back, and had a hell of a time reversing the problem due (i guess) to the updated security features of seemingly all web browsers now.
The only solution I could come up with on my own, was to revert my Firefox browser back a few versions, and then I was able to log in and undo my screw up.
I don't ever use Firefox otherwise, and I've turned off auto-updating for the browser on my laptop, in case I ever make the mistake again.
Question: Any idea if there's an easier solution for this problem?

Now back to the Gmail Authentication topic....
My problem (above) was also created when trying to setup a device for testing, with my own Gmail account settings shortly after I'd enabled 2 step verification for my Google account. I'd forgotten all about it, so I was trying all sorts of different settings and Certificate installations, when I finally realized that all I needed to do was log into my google account and create a new verification code for the device, and the issue was resolved.
Maybe it's the same for you too?

I have never needed to install this certificate & have set up tons of mfd's with a gmail, mpc305, mpc3002,3003, 306, all with no issues.

Are you sure you entered your password correctly it is obviously case sensitive also the user name is your full gmail email address.

Double check these details by logging into you gmail account online, you could even change your password & retry.
