Re: Need some advice on learning networking
So, I just finished watching a 30-minute video on Kerberos. It always amazes me that someone was smart enough to invent something like this. The process really is genius. It was invented at MIT.
I won't bore with details. There's plenty of information on the net. Basically it involves 3 security keys - encrypted. Hence the name Kerberos - 3 headed dog. Kerberos is used on file servers and Active Directory to name a couple.
It's always nice to know what's going on under the hood.

If it isn't on YouTube, you don't need to know it.Comment

True. Not only that, but it's much better to follow a regimented course or you'll be all over the place on YouTube. There is some good stuff on YouTube but I think it should be used to supplement a regimented study course. Re: Need some advice on learning networking
Mister YouTube engineer, believe or not some of us actually can fix something without watching videos.
But for that some people need gift from the great Wizard of Oz... "The sum of the square roots of any two sides of an isosceles triangle is equal to the square root of the remaining side."A tree is known by its fruit, a man by his deeds. A good deed is never lost, he who sows courtesy, reaps friendship, and he who plants kindness gathers love.
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.Comment

I use Youtube all the time. I'd rather see someone else take it apart before I do it, and get tips and tricks on how to do it, vs me going in cold and trying to figure it out myself.Comment

Anyone who limits himself to one source of information is doing a disservice to his journey of learning. You should seek knowledge everywhere - Manuals, Youtube, CT.net, smoke signals, Morse Code. Hell, I've learned things from green techs.Adversity temporarily visits a strong man but stays with the weak for a lifetime.Comment

Re: Need some advice on learning networking
The problem with a site like YouTube is there's no curation so good information is right next to bad. I've seen plenty of videos on Windows issues that will certainly fix a specific problem, but send up breaking low-level processes.
