Scan BarCodes on a copier

Look to find a solution that can scan printed BarCodes via Doc Feeder into a human readable PDF file.

The scan has to send the file to a predetermined file folder preferably in MS365.

Kyocera Hypas can do that, and it can be added to most models of Kyocera. It's probably been 12 years since I tried to do anything like this, so I'm probably not the right guy to provide the details. =^..^=

... lots of customers in lots of industries scan documents with barcodes on them. Invoices, packing slips, sales documents, HR employee records, medical records, investment accounts,legal documents, court documents, etc.

Kofax (formerly Nuance) AutoStore can do that easily, and much more.

... Good to know. Does that have to be installed on a server? I am looking for an inexpensive solution in a busy freight forwarding environment.

For such a small installation, a workstation will work fine. Note that “home” versions of Windows will not work; it won’t even install if the wrong version is detected. Windows 8.1 or 10 would be required.

Server OS is highly recommended in larger environments.

... sounds like a hardware/software solution in excess of $5,000.00 + annual maintenance fees? Could AutoStore be installed on a virtual server saving some hardware costs?

It would be right at home on a VM, as there is no hardware required.

It may be more than you’re looking to spend, but AutoStore has so many other talents that you will very quickly find tons of other fun things for it to justify its cost.

BTW…I’m just the techie guy. I don’t normally get to see the prices.

You are aware that in scanning certain type of bar codes such as anything having to do with medical patients or students to file you may be violating the law.

Primarily Code 128 1D Barcode style but I would not want not to limit myself. 2D, UPC, QR, I want them all.

Medical offices often use personal label printers to place stickers on patient files. The sticker almost always has a Barcode.

The medical office then uses a desktop scanner to scan the same patient files with Barcodes on them. A copier should be no different.

Auto store is a bit overkill, DMConnect Pro powered by Nuance will handle zonal barcode extraction to a variable for use in naming...etc but if you want to tabulate the data from several pages into an excel table or such, some scripting would be required in either case. DMConnect will accept C-Sharp scripts for Excel file handling.

Neither Nuance nor KoFax (which acquired a lot of Nuance products acquired this software) offers DMConnect Pro. Seems to be unique to Kyocera which does not help me with Toshiba copiers.

Ahh well you will probably have to go with scanning to a hot folder to pick-up the process into a zonal OCR program that supports however you wish to manage the extracted data.

There really isn't much difference if you're not inputting data at or from the MFP there is no need for either Autostore or DMConnect.

IT prohibits me from installing any 3rd party software.

Maybe a watched folder to a Cloud solution?

The solution has to cost less than $600.00 one time charge and must include OCR. No recurring fees.
