Sharp BP version 5 firmware - PaperCut fixes

With the release of the new version 5 BP's, supporting RED (Radio Equipment Directive), we've found some problems today with integrating with PaperCut MF. (This should only apply to EU/UK, but may be relevant to other markets in the future)

If you cannot connect to server, or the login fails to "enable device", or the card reader causes the connection to drop; try the following:

Make sure the firmware is at the latest.
For BP-60Cxx etc, the version 05.03.xx is the minimum needed; as there is a fix for an option that needs to be changed later.

On the device or web manager:
    1. System Settings
      1. System Control
        1. Advanced Settings
          1. Press OK, then in ID enter: 00048, press Show
          2. Tick Enable Legacy Cipher Suites for TLS
          3. Press Submit
      2. Security Settings
        1. SSL/TLS Settings
          1. Untick Verify Signature of Server Certificate of the Other Party
          2. Press Submit, then Reboot Now
This will allow the device to connect to PaperCut.

We have also found that if you enable Use IC Card for Authentication, this setting will cause the connection to PaperCut MF to drop; if this happens, do the following:
    1. System Settings
      1. Authentication Settings
        1. Default Settings
          1. Untick Enable Offline Authentication with stored User Information
          2. Press Submit, then Reboot Now

Hopefully Sharp and/or PaperCut can release some fixes, or automate the process in the future.
