You dont really need an app, you can program a workstation to simulate a printer by first installing the LPR .
If you want to do this without an app, I can send you the .pdfsigpic

Also, you should have a copy of this on your laptop... News ...Remember that account I had that had blank areas when printing from a really old Novell Fax Server? This was the program I used to troubleshoot it. It does a ton of other things as well. Check out their home page and take a look around. One thing to note though is that the link above, Downloader 2006, contains most all the programs on the program page.

Thanks Unisys but I already have this app. It doesn't like Vista business that I'm running on the laptop though. It crashes at start up something with msinet.ocx. I was told that another app called minilpr will work but I havn't found it yet.Mystic Crystal RevelationsComment

Have you had any luck at performing what Jomama suggested or have you had a chance to try it yet?sigpic

Maybe I'm not understanding exactly what you want...., but can't you print to file?If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Unisys12 I got minilpr(minilpd) and miniraw. I have the same problem with vista, Raw capture works fine but the lpr capture won't run. I tried turning lpr monitoring on and off in Vista same result. They both run on XP, what a suprise.
Blackcat4866 what I'm after is to capture the print stream to the printer so I can view it as text and see what commands are going to the printer with the job. IE not calling the correct font at a certain line or pulling from the wrong tray at the wrong time. Thanks to all for thier input!!!Mystic Crystal RevelationsComment

The print to file should do exactly that. When I am not working on a Copystar machine (which either have the data capture built in or can be added on a CF), the print to file will capture the exact text going to the printer.
As confirmation you can browse to the print-to-file and print the document via the Printable Data menu option on the web page or via a web based utility like KM-Net Viewer.

TB, I agree with blackcat here. It should do exactly what your wanting.
In this case though, just ask your customer to perform the operation (or walk them through it over the phone) and then you can save it to a jump drive or have them e-mail it to you. At that point, you should be able to take a look at the job from there.
I just did a test Print to File and it seems I cannot view it with any native programs on my home PC. I don't have Downloader `06 installed, so... let me see what I can dig up here...
(insert cricket noise here)
Here's one option to play with... not sure it supports Vista though - CodeProject: EMF Printer Spool File Viewer. Free source code and programming help
Might be helpful, but again since your using Vista... not sure - Viewing the output of a spool file
I also found, which you might already know this, that for print to file to work in Vista you have to open the printer properties and under the Ports tab choose File.sigpic

Textpad
Textpad works quite nicely to view your capture. You can get it for free here: TextPad - the text editor for Windows
the nice thing about textpad is that it can display hex & null characters that cannot be viewed in Notepad or Wordpad.

I've been using pclcodes for the text edits, works ok
Download PCLCodes 8.39 - Free Download Review at Shareware Connection Software Portal, No Crack Serial Number, No Key Warez
and mini lpd The MiniLPD and MiniRAW Page
Another problem with the print to file is that one job comes from a main frame so I need to capture at the printer. The other job comes from a citrix server through a win print server. Thanks !Mystic Crystal RevelationsComment

What format are the jobs in? (PCL, PS...) E-mail it to me and maybe I can help out... a little.

Same here. I've spent a bit of time decoding Post Script.
