    Sharp MX453N

Im getting ready to get into sharp products, but, unlike the ricoh, or Minolta stuff im used to, the SMB is outsourced on thier software? or Do these come with onboard SMB functionality?
can this be found? I was on the sharp usa website, and there is no scanning software download,,
Can this machine scan to email without the software?
I dont want to walk this new equipment into the clients office without my scanning capability..
any help, or where to get the software without costing me more than the account is worth.. LOL thanks

A new MXM453N comes with Sharpdesk, scanning software, and one user license. You don't need the software to scan with the machine, scan to email and network folder scan, SMB, are standard on the machine and just need to be setup.

Yes with a really big but, ... you can but, only on port 139. You do not have the option of selecting port 445 for Win7 and Win8 PCs. You'll need to open up port 139 on the PC to scan to SMB.

Since most PCs are wanting to use port 445 these days, it's more convenient to install Sharpdesk, but it can be done. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
        1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
        2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
        3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
        4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
        5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

To enable SMB over NetBIOS, do the following http://support.microsoft.com/kb/204279, except instead of Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP you should* Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP.

*Really you shouldn't, there are reasons why this is no longer used.

You won't, SMB is now enabled over NetBIOS via TCP/IP (UDP 137 & 138, TCP 139). As long as you open the firewall to allow those ports through.

Scanning to FTP is still a better choice, as long as you block any external connections to port 21.
