          Question:

Is it possible that there is a problem with the ribbon cables?

When i pull out the cables from the mainboard, i get exactly the same problem and error.
Probably microcracks on the bended places?
          (see previous post for movie)

I have read that someone had the same error and replaced the cables wich solved the problem.

Micro cracks can cause numerous problems and intermittent random error codes.
Using the Flexible Flat Cable Checker (FCC Checker) would be a good idea to find out about the condition of the Flex Cable.

              Hi,

It seems you need 2 of those FCC Checkers to perform the test.
Is there a way to test it whit 1 FCC Checker?

that's why it pays to call a Canon Authorized Field Service Company if available in your area--

                checkers cost about 50.00us

                  Thank you for the information.
                  i do really appriciate this.

In the meantime i have contacted a Canon service agent and will see what it will cost to examine the printer.

I will update here with the information later.

Thanks a lot to those who did their effort to help me out on this issue.

                  Regards,

Still waiting for Canon tech but i have in the meantime a question.

WHat does the blue handle on the carriage do. If i move this, i dont see any moving parts.
The axis underneath turns probably with a concentric wheel that moves the head up or down.
Moving the blue handle does not make any change in movement of the axis.
How is this determined that the engine sees how to adjust the printhead acording to the setting of the blue handle?

                    20150913_142408.jpg

Also would it be advisable to reflow the main board?

I checked the purge unit (not removed yet) and there seems to be some cotainer holding a liquid.

                      QM3-5988-010.jpg

The container is the black square box on top of the unit.
So, is this normal that there is some liquid inside. It looks like its allmost full.

                      Regards,

I found some video and there was also some liquid in the container. So, i guess this would be normal.

Hence my question on the blue handle.

                          Slant adjustment handle*
The tilting of the head is adjusted with the lever.

I know this, i have read abouth the adjustment of the head.
But i dont see any parts moving, the handle just goes up or down.
I would understand if there is some movement of the head while adjusting the lever, but it does nothing.

Maybe there is something broken, the handle just moves idle.

                            Regards,

                              Hi Roverious,

There should be some movement, it only moves up and down a very small amount, but yes it is meant to move ever so slightly. Maybe something wasn't replaced properly when the carriage assy was removed.

The liquid in your purge unit is normal, its meant to keep the head lubed up so the ink doesn't dry up and block the nozzles in the printhead.

                              Cheers,
                              SAZ911..........

                                Thanks SAZ911

It came to my attention that nothing moved at all, even before i have taken out the printhead.
Even a small movement should be noticable, but in this case it does not.

Thats why i think there must be something broken and (maybe) could be the cause of the error.

Is there somewhere a detailed video of such a carriage? (i will search also)

Anyway, its something to look at.
