[CQ] Canon IR3570 half copies sky shot

I have a Canon IR3570 that makes gorgeous copies & prints but has a horrible sky shot! metal spring on reg roller has been checked and reinstalled.
FYI- same issue was present before the drum & entire fuser unit were replaced (due to other issues like lines & smudges).
here are pix of the sky shot & of a Normal copy & print.

    Thanks in advance

Go into service mode copier > test > pg set to 7 (should be black or nearly black.

post the sample here, but it doesnt seem like there's anything wrong with the copier.

You may like to try turning the office florescent light off and try the sky shot again....

I wouldnt assume any of it is the engine of the machine because if prints and internal print outs are perfect then you know you're just dealing with the scanner.

Run a PG test print. If it looks good, then we know its the scanner.

It may need cleaned. Or could be a deeper issue.

When copying from dadf how does it look?

Yeah, if you've got a light directly over the glass, your skyshot will not come out very black. Direct sunlight can do that too. Try closing the blinds, and/or shutting off the lights.

I once spent 2 hours trying to figure out why a Mita DC-211 started making poor copies after I arrived. Like an idiot, I had keyed the front door and had removed the toner hopper cover to peek in at the drum. Not only was I peeking in, so was the afternoon sunlight. Frustrated, I buttoned up the machine, and discovered that there wasn't any real problem in the first place. I tend to remember those hard-won lessons. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
            1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
            2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
            3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
            4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
            5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Re: Canon IR3570 half copies sky shot

I used to have a machine in a small room with a very high, small window.
Every September for about 2 weeks I'd get calls because the Doc' feeder was jamming intermittantly
After a few years I realised the sun was at such an angle that it shined through the high, small window straight onto the optical bail arm sensor.
A sort of Indiana Jones and the copier of doom moment !

This is great. had a Canon GP605 (i think) that at mid morning the sun was shining through the window that the printer was sitting beside .it shone through the vent slits on the copiers side panel hitting the drum and discharging. causing pretty much complete blank prints. customer would log and by the time we arrived it was better. took 3 days for me to figure out the problem. and i only guessed after i was running samples off while standing in the window sunning myself. blocking the light into the printer. thought i was best engineer ever after that....lol

you can go to special features and choose negative to do sky shots with the lid closed or put white paper on glass

Well you guys are amazing and I was so embarrassed with myself over this. Lol
The problem was the light getting in. The copier used to be in a small room with no windows and then it was moved into another room that not only has lots of Windows but they put the copier directly across from a set of Windows and there was a light hanging down above the copier too! It's on old house that was converted into a commercial space so the windows are big and the lights are still like a house light so they hang low and closer to the copier than a normal office light. I will definitely remember this lesson learned!! Just another reminder to always use the K.I.S.S. method when troubleshooting!! Lol
Thanks for all the suggestions and for taking the time to help out.
