    Canon iRC3100 Weird Fault

I have an iRC3100 with the following issues:

It copies from the glass without a problem.
If i try and copy from the Document Feeder, the machine picks up a sheet of paper, takes it to just before the registraion roller and sits there with the machine displaying "copying". A long while later the machine displays a jam. Exactly the same thing happens when printing from a PC.
There are no error codes or alarm codes at all.
If i try to cancel the job the machine sits there displaying "cancelling" but nothing happens.
Any clues ? This one's got me scratching my head
    Cheers Andy

I'll look on Canon techbase tomorrow and post up during the day if I find anything.

Having no specific experience with this model, but lots of experience on Canon, I would say this sounds like the exposure lamp is not reaching the desired brightness. In this order I would check:

      1) for any codes stored but not displayed (specifically E220),
      2) for any blackening of the exposure lamp (I'm making the assumption that this is fluorescent)
      3) for any arcing of the lamp terminals
      4) replace lamp
      5) replace inverter

I've seen these exact symptoms on a wide variety of different Canon machines. As part of the warm-up many MFP's check lamp intensity, even if no scanning is required. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thanks for the reply. Thats sounds quite logical but i can still copy from the glass without a problem. I am going to reload the System software on Monday. I recalled having a similar problem on an iR2200 some time ago. I will advise if it sorts out the problem,
        Cheers Andy

            Andy,
Unplug all the connectors on the Image Reader pcb and plug them back in.
We had an iRC4080 doing the exact same fault today in the showroom.
Different DADF but you never know.

                    Kwazi's answer but in detail:

                    Product :
imageRUNNER C3100 / C3170 Title : The imageRUNNER will copy but will not print. Problem :
The imageRUNNER will copy but will not print.

                    Solution :
The imageRUNNER will copy fine but when attempting to print the paper will stop at the Registration Roller and the machine will cycle continuously instead of printing. This issue can be caused if the there is bad or corrupt data on the hard drive. To remove the bad or corrupt data, Hard Drive Clears should be performed.
To perform the HD Clears go into service mode COPIER>FUNCTION>SYSTEM
Select CHK-TYPE and set it to 1 and press ok.
Then select HD-CLEAR and press ok.
Select CHK-TYPE and set it to 2 and press ok.
Then select HD-CLEAR and press ok.
Select CHK-TYPE and set it to 3 and press ok.
Then select HD-CLEAR and press ok.
Select CHK-TYPE and set it to 4 and press ok.
Then select HD-CLEAR and press ok.
After completing this procedure, power cycle the copier and reenter any user settings.

Guys, i solved the problem with a new Hard Drive. The giveaway was that i was able to copy from the glass which scans to RAM whereas a print job or copying from the feeder uses the Hard Drive! Thanks for all your input,

                      Cheers Andy
