Here is what you can do. That helped me once.
You need to get to mainboard and find there flash memory. In my case it was chip - 25Q64BVFIG. It contains firmware for that machine.
Then - need to desolder it, reprogram using programmer with support of that type of schemes and solder it to mainboard again.
Downbelow will be a link for dump to download (must mind you - that Canon iR-2420 was in Russia and I'm not sure about differences between US/Canada and European firmwares. Just to let you know that beforehand - that there might be some problems to show up. But I suppose - since machine will finish loading inner software and comes to ready state - you can just figure it out by playing with local/country settings). These are photos before and after (connector melts a little) 2016-10-03 07-10-22.jpg2016-10-03 07-55-48.jpg
- About dump - it's ready to use with your programmer - it's been taken from newly installed machine (not by me - but from guys from similar Russian tech forum). с нового аппарата ir2420.BIN / Облако Mail.Ru

Wow this is a bit drastic, have you tried simply reflashing the firmware?

I have been trying just to reflash firmware, but as I remember now - there is some sort of special download mode (when you holding some sequence of buttons while switching main power on), when device can accept firmware file. And at the same time - Canon program must be running to find your plugged in device and give you permission to upload firmware. And the reason why I was going the way I wrote above - device wasn't recognized by Canon uploading firmware program.
But yeah - easy way here is to start from trying luck with that program.
Hey innokileo, what are first 3 letters of your serial number on machine? Where that device locally? And - is there any chance that you can find what version of firmware there was before?
