Jams after last sheet of paper fed from tray 1

    CANON IMAGERUNNER ADVANCE C2225

    FULL STORY...

machine would not pull paper unless tray 1 was partially full or close to it.

I could not reproduce that but I found rollers worn so I figured machine needed new rollers...

I attempted to replace upper roller in tray 1...

springs on top of the roller towards the back came undone...

took out paper feed section and fixed spring...

in the upper roller section... of paper feed unit...

found a white piece of plastic with a rectangular hole in it... could not figure where it went...

    so left it out...

realized... i did not have the lower roller... for tray 1...

reconnected... tray 1... reseated... all looked good...

ran machine... machine runs great... save one thing...

after tray 1 pulls last sheet and prints it...

the machine does not say tray 1 is empty...

it generates a jam 0015 I believe... not entirely sure on the code...
but it does the same code every time...

at this point I figure to just remove the paper feed section and put in a new one... but I am curious about this jam after last sheet is pulled...

everything is stock... no finisher... nothing special... just a simple copier machine... bare bones basics...

    any help is appreciated...

Don't know canon that well but from what you describe the paper end sensor is not working making the machine think there is still paper in tray and it misfed. I would guess that white plastic piece has something to do with paper end sensor.

Is there another paper tray that you could compare to see where that white piece is suppose to go or parts manual?

It has to have something to do with the paper end sensor, only logical thing that makes sense.

Agreed. Close the the tray without any paper. Does is think it has paper? There's going to be a paper empty sensor of some sort. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
      1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
      2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
      3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
      4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
      5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

        ok...

its one of those that the first tray paper feed section looks different from tray 2... and I think the tray is smaller...

I checked the manual and the canon site and find nothing about that piece... that I found in the machine...

        ok...

tray 1 paperfeed section has a sensor for lift detection and to trigger mp tray...

        found a knowledgebase article 91117

        that details issue..

I remember looking in the machine and saw no flags for paper detection no sensor arms that plopped down from the tray or roof of the machine... that tray triggers...

knowledgebase shows it... but not clear on location...

        Paper Sensor PCB Assembly (FM3-8607-000)

--I am getting paperfeed section 1, the assembly that includes the board and the flags... for paper detection...--

how do I trigger the flags to pop out and/or where do I find this assembly in the machine...

I figure I am going to have to take out paper tray feed section 1...

        is there an easier way...

        thats my question???

Re: Jams after last sheet of paper fed from tray 1

          all fixed...

          this was a mission...
pulled out the paperfeed section for tray 1...
opened side door all the way... pushed the two latches in the arms connecting the side door... got it down all the way...
figured out that the flag that detect if tray one is full is released when tray is closed... little white arm in back drops the flag...

the sensor assembly actually is set in the roof above the tray...

snapped it out... unplugged from back...

this cannot be removed without removing tray 1 paperfeed section...

          snapped new one in...

          fitted it all together...

put everything back in... machine began to jam...

figured it was the spring loaded arm on the top of the tray one feed unit...

figured it was jarred out of place... it was sitting too far forward... the white tabs should be sitting well back and not all the way forward...

fixed it... but snapped free the piece that sits above it that has a flag that sits on that spring loaded arm...

spring flew one way... flag flew another...

found it... now I had to take out that whole piece... after taking out paper feed section... then had to figure out how it sits and then put it all back together... then snapped paperfeed section back in... tested single sided and double sided... all was well...

man it was a mission... I was sweating bulllets... it didn't help that I was pretty new on canon...

Wow! Feel your pain. We all have had those service calls from hell. Fortunately I only get a few a year but that is enough!

Consider this your initiation into Canon world. Haha

Good job on fixing that. We have had several that show paper full when it is empty on the top tray. When you push on the drawer it shows paper empty. Canon has a mod for it on the lever behind the cassette. We take a pair of pliers and bend the pin on the right side where the cassette hooks on. Push it to the back a little. Fixed every one. I had to get help the first time and another tech figured it out. I did not push on the cassette, he did.
