Canon c5235a new hard drive software
Hello all and thank you ahead for this platform to discuss fixing copiers. I have been dabling over the past 2 years working on the Canon C5235's and the C5240's. I have bought 9 or more of these copiers and been fixing any issue they might have. It's been fun working on these as I have 20 years exp in the computer and network fields. Recently I bought another one of these copiers and it didn't come with a hard drive. I have been researching on here that I will need access to the SST Program & Firmware needed to format HDD and load printer firmware in SST> then onto HDD. Can anyone point me in the right direction on where to download the software needed? Also could I just clone a hard drive from one of my other machines? Is the file system not FAT32 or NTFS? Does anyone know what exactly is in the software? Thanks again...

Canon are strict on what HDD you can use. You can't simply fit any model.
I have had good success cloning a working HDD to another.
However if you want to load the SSW using the SST onto a new HDD you MUST buy direct from Canon (or simply use an IDENTICAL model HDD)
We can supply the latest firmware should you need it.

Unfortunately you cannot clone the hard drive on the C52xx series, it will report a bad disk.
The only way is get a USB stick with System Software for the machine or use SST with a PC.Comment

Here is what I found so far...
Hard drive type in the Canon C52xx : Toshiba MQ01ABF032 320GB 2.5 SATA 5400 RPM Drive
After putting two different copier hard drives into a pc right after bios post. Bios security manager reports the hard drive is protected by a password authentication system. (does anyone know the default password?)

Alright got another working copier.....
After installing an extra hard drive I had out of my spare parts machine. It came up as follows...

Then the machine came up and occurred an error...

Rebooted and all was good.!
Had an "Default Key Corrupted or Invalid" error.. cleared it by..
1. Enter service mode * 2 8 * > * 2, for level 2
2. Copier > Function > Clear > highlight CA Key - press OK.
3. Power copier off, then back on - Default Key is Corrupt message should clear.
After setting up the network and logging into the HTML setting page I found another error...The internal output tray of the main unit is full.Remove the paper from the internal output tray of the main unit. I have the manual for installing the finishing unit and understand to just reverse the steps as the finisher didn't come with this copier.
However everything else is working fine..I don't believe I'm going to worry much about the error: (The internal output tray of the main unit is full.) as it don't show in the main display and I think I might install the finishing unit that I have on my spare parts machine at a later time.
Although I would like to learn more about the software on the hard drive and find out what the default password is.

The message : The internal output tray of the main unit is full.
appears usually because the output tray full sensor flag is missing.Comment

you can source any hdd and clone - pre x5xx model this works can say clone oe320gb to 500gb ,later models no point as hdd is matched/married to machine - however YOU can source these hdd at much lower price than from canon ,have found on 33xx/35xx hdd when fail cant be recovered(appears to be limited to on particular brand) so I have been sourcing hgst hdd ,format with sst and load f/wComment

I've just checked you are correct as long you have a working hdd to clone from. but a lot of threads are end users thinking you can just go out to it shop and buy any hard drive not knowing you need a good working one to start with. Stay safeRegards Mark

My experience is you can clone the hdd on the ira c50xx but not on the ira c52xx but you can use any similar hdd with the same capacity or higher and use sst or usb stick to format and install system software on it.Comment

the hard drive is usual locked when placed into a canon machine , is there away for me to format it and use it in my pc, i place a normal one in the immage runner c5235a also and it locked it, pc cant access needs password, is there away for me to format and use again in my pc
