    Canon Image class D880

I'm a Sharp/Mita dealer and got this on trade. It's seems to have a scanning issue but I'm not sure if thats true. It starts to scan than it stops....the audible alarm goes off but no error codes. The home position switch, ribbon cables all check out fine. Canon sent me a parts book but I really needed more information. Anyone familiar with this machine?

    Thanks

That is the same model as the iR1630/70 - except it has the tone/drum/developer in one catridge. Seems if Canon was willing to send you a parts manual on this comsumer grade unit, they may let you also have the iR1300/1600 series Service Manual AND let you call in to Tech Spt.

Could be a number of things starting with check to make sure the scanner path is clean and LIGHTLY lubed. The no error code is a bit different. Does the portion it manages to scan, print properly (if not check that the ccd is working right)? Does it happen from both the glass and the DF?

Not at work right now but when I get there I will check the Canon KnowledgeBase and see if there are any TPs on this problem.

Thanks for getting back to me costd. It starts to scan then stops, picking up paper from cassette or bypass doesn't take place. When using feeding scanner goes all the way to the right and stops (no feeding takes place from all three areas). I just replaced scanner motor and home switch. Scanner is like new and moves freely, this is strange.

Checked the Canon esupport site and did not get any good leads.

Since the scanner moves to position when you use the DF - the home position switch and rails are fine. Next thing I would check is to see if the CCD comes on as the scanner moves to position then turns on the "lamp" before any paper movement starts. If the CCD does not come on, it could be a ribbon cable, the CCD (not common), or the image processing board.

Again, since they let you have a parts manual, I would give Canon tech support a call and open a ticket. They get bad press at times but I have had mostly good luck with them.

It is the ribbon cable that goes from the scanner down to the image proccesoir PCB. After sliding the machine open to change toners, the cable can get pinched or ripped. I've seen it several times.

According to the manual there isn't an E111, but if it's a E110 you have a laser unit problem. This fits with your symptoms if the mirror motor cannot reach speed. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
                1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
                2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
                3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
                4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
                5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

                  cable makes sense

canons like to "jam" at registration sensor when the scan lamp burns out. If you power off and on the copier, the lamp should turn on as a check. LEDs don't all die at the same time, so the cable or the board is likely cooked.
