Firmware update for Canon IR ADV C5051

    Hi guys,

I have a few (6) Canon IR ADV C5051 machines that I support, and they haven't had a firmware update since about 2016.

I'm suspecting a firmware update may help because users have been having some strange issues when printing larger PDF files. The PDF files will either stop printing at a certain point, or will pause for several minutes at a certain point in the file. When I print that same file on other copiers/printers, it prints fine (Xerox, Lexmark).

Tomorrow I will be going to get the info which you all are going to be asking (what driver is being used? is there an error code? what is the current firmware version? can you post a copy of the affected PDF file?), I don't have that data yet. But this isn't the first time there have been odd errors with these somewhat older machines and I think a firmware update would be in order.

Does anyone know where I can get the latest firmware for these machines?

    Thanks.

Upload on a usb stick only with sst.

I thought with the Advance series you could update them from the control panel?

Yes you can in management settings, no need for sst and the slightly tedious task of registering firmware.

Re: Firmware update for Canon IR ADV C5051

            Thanks everyone.

The firmware version is currently: DC-CON 71.01 and R-CON 24.01

The error code being gotten wasn't technically an error code, but a NG print job result code of 857, which means "Printing was canceled due to the job being canceled while being received, or due to timeout."

The driver being used was the printer-specific PS3 driver for the Canon IR ADV C5045/5051.

I don't have a copy of the PDF file that was being printed, so can't post it.

But I think that proceeding with the firmware upgrade is the best idea in any case.

I forgot to mention that these copiers I service are not connected to the internet. I see there is an option in the web interface in Management settings, as was mentioned above, so I just need to get the firmware file. That should work. I'm just looking over the options on where to get the firmware from. I want to be sure it is from the proper source so I don't have any issues.

Advance series 20xx,40xx,50xx,60xx etc with old firmware!!

You can no longer update through the panel (cds). Also e-maintenance is no longer supported. The only solution is upgrading with usb or sst.

                      P.S

You can't send the firmware remotely because you need sst to load the program on the key. Even a copy of the firmware to another usb key doesn't work.

I don't think the irac50xx is know longer available on control panel also the machine needs to be registered with E maintenance I find it much quicker to use USB most guys I know carry the most common on one stick.

                          Thanks,

I went ahead and created two USB sticks with the proper update software using SST and updated a IR ADV C5051 and a IR ADV C5255. Those went fine. I'll drop the web interface method for now. Maybe there are other methods, but this works well for me.

If the printer does not have fresh firmware "Security Upgrade TLS1.2 " update via CDS does not work. Also e-maintenence does not work.

                              Thanks everyone.

I finished upgrading all of these machines using a USB with the firmware loaded on it, using the "DOWNLOAD" button in service mode. That's the most straightforward for my scenario where these machines are not connected to the internet.
