    C5535 slow boot up

I have a C5535 that takes about 4 minutes to come to ready. I wanted to update the system software with a flash drive but when I power on while pressing 2 and 8 nothing happens, just a status bar about 1/4 way and no further progress. I can perform the diagnosis by pressing 2 and 4 and it comes back OK. I have changed the Main 1 but no change, also tried new HDD but can't flash it. Any ideas?

I would say the HDD is failing.

Hold down keys 2&8 while powering on.

When we put a new hdd in and hold down the 2 and 8 and power on, nothing happens, it never goes into format screen, only has a white status bar that never goes further than about an inch long.

When we try that, it never goes into format screen, only shows about an inch long white status bar but never goes further than that so we can't format the hdd and load software from flash.

I would start fresh with a new USB stick.

I saw your recent post about how to do this, so I did try that method but unfortunately it never gets to an entry screen when powering up. I hold the 2 and 8 turn power on like always but all I get is about an inch long white status bar. I even tried to do it from the service mode, going into Download mode from COPIER>FUNCTION>SYSTEM>DOWNLOAD and same inch long progress bar that never goes into format screen. Everything else about the copier seems to work, it is just very slow to come to ready. Every time it sits on the Checking Data, do not turn off main power screen for about 4 minutes. I don't know of any other way to get a new hard drive on it.

If you start the machine without the Flash PCB (Board on Main Controller with the black chip and white sticker on it), does it give an E748-2010? If so, then you may need a Flash PCB and if not, then a Main Controller issue.

I have left the progress bar overnight and came back in the morning to a ready state.

It gave me the E748 when started it without the Flash PCB. Is that the PCB that you have to get from Canon and have it registered for this copier or is it easier to get than that?

                    Yes, special processing thru Canon.
